He's got the eye of Fatima
On the wall in his room
Two bottles of tequila
Three cats and a broom
He's got an 18-year-old angel
And she's all dressed in black
He's got 15 bindles of cocaine
Tied up in a sack

And this here's a government experiment
And we're driving like hell
To give some cowboys some acid
And to stay in motels
We're gonna eat up some wide open spaces
Like it was a cruise on the Nile
Take the hands off the clock
We're gonna be here awhile

And I am the eye of Fatima
On the wall of the motel room
And cowboys on acid
Are like Eygyptian cartoons
And no one ever conquered Wyoming
From the left or from the right
But you can stay in motel rooms
Stay up all night

Cracker (the other David Lowery band) did the same thing with the album Greatest Hits Redux:  re-recorded some of their songs in order to stick it to the label that put out a best-of collection from which the band got nothing.   I love that.  Also, IMHO, many of the songs on the Redux album sound better than the original releases.

The redux version of Euro-Trash Girl - Hickman's guitar playing is so crazy good.

I 100% agree, the redux versions are fantastic.

I've seen several shows where Camper opened for Cracker. Definitely catch one of those if you can.

But there's this... "Popular Songs of Great Enduing Strength an Beauty" which I think is this version here.  https://www.amazon.com/Popular...
It has this footnote on Amazon... Popular Songs features 18 tracks, 5 of which have been re-recorded specifically for this release. Explains Camper Van Beethoven band
spokesperson, Col. Jack 'Cheese' Sandwich (ret.) of Limone sul Garda,
Italy : 'We endeavored to present an enticing set of popular songs from
the much-acclaimed, secondary and tertiary recording periods of the
band, 1985-1990. We were, however, thwarted in this effort by a certain
recording company which had released the later (tertiary) output of
these original recordings. We made offers to buy back our own catalog,
but they were rebuffed. Hence, still owning the publishing rights, we
decided to re-record a few of these later songs.'

Any band that works 'bindle' into a lyric is OK with me. Plus, this is a great tune.
I love that RP loves Camper Van Beethoven/Cracker.
I don't know. It has a crazy weekend, lost soul, last ditch, kinda thing going on and to be honest, that story has been told many times. I gave it a low rating only because if I'm going to comment I should at least give a number on the scale.
Great outro guitar playing! After the vocals ended I thought a new song had started so I checked to see what it was. Now I want to grab my guitar, plug in, and play along.
Another woefully low rating for such a great song
I guess I have strange  taste, I love this song! Great to see there are many other fans out there but also surprised of the low ratings. I love what you do William, daring to go  where no man has gone before.
Another first for my R.P. ears.  Camper > Cracker.

Thanks for this clarification - that explains it! The original version I think is better. This seems a bit more "vanilla" and less energized.
Ha.
Cute little ditty.
but then again.
There's so f'n much music.
We'll never run out of mediocre shite....

Yeah , by all kinds  you mean listeners with bad taste!
Perhaps they are the ones who enjoy Counting Crows and John Cougar.

Totally agree with you.  That seems to me like a song that only Mr. Caldwell, the accountant from the Omaha suburbs, could dislike.  But people who like RP?  It's just weird.

This melody reminds me of a song by the french group Rita Mitsouko. It was named C'est comme ça and dates back to 1986 ...

1. The singing
2. The melody

But I think if I understood what the lyrics were about I might like it more.

first heard this tune covered by bradley(sublime). makes me wonder if this is the original.
Yet another rather good CVB tune on RP that finally made me stop questioning my memory and confirm that it really was them that did Take the Skinheads Bowling - the only CVB I knew prior to RP. Thank you for continually broadening my musical horizons.

If everybody would like the exact same thing, it would be a mess.     Some times , people may like a song more for what it mean to them...souvenir

Wow, that's the second time I thought it might be The Pretenders (before singing comes in), and it was Camper.

I prefer playing it at zero, which is pretty close to the rating I give it.
Trippy lyrics! CVB, whatever you were smoking, pass it around! {#Propeller}
Complete balls
That's some pretty revolutionary lyrics.

Why don't they let bass players play like that any more?

Interesting this is not the album version...which is this??  I like the other version better, but either way an excellent tune!
This certainly sounds like different vocal mix from the original album - can anyone confirm?

and thanks for letting it run into part 2{#Clap}
Real music!  woo-hoo  .. fled to wfmu online during that Decemberist poo-poo that would not "psd"  : P

CLASSIC!  Finally made it onto RP - wonderful!  Instant "8"
First heard this album back in 1989, used to listen to it on the bus to work on a ... walkman!
The bus journey was from Alcester in Warwickshire, to Birmingham central - and the album length covered almost exactly the journey length.

The music reminds me of those years - crazy haired hippy me back then.
