I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back

And I'm talking to myself at night
Because I can't forget
Back and forth through my mind
Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes
Says leave it alone
Leave it alone (x3)

Don't want to hear about it
Every single one's got a story to tell
Everyone knows about it
From the Queen of England to the hounds of hell

And if I catch it coming back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that ain't what you want to hear
But that's what I'll do
And a feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home
Find a home (x3)

And a feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home
Find a home
Go back home
Go back home

covers are lazy
A good cover brings something interesting to the song. And this one does.

Postmodern Jukebox with Haley Reinhart has entered the chat.

Yep! Right up there with Lenny Kravitz's American Woman.

Best. Cover. Ever.

It's kind of a new standard
What about 2 Cellos' version?

loving this funky version!
Jaci White is one artist I've come to appreciate more over the past 17 years. Don't love his stuff now, but don't hate it anymore either. This classic is one of my early RP Favs.
i once heard on the radio (Brave New Waves) 6 covers of "Wild thing" and kind of liked them all. Covers can be good.
This is actually a technically better version. Except the overuse of scratches here and there to make it sound like an album… I want this clean.

This is better.

I still prefer this cover to the original tho. So funky!

Really interesting version of this song
Good for one listen, but no match for the original.

Rocks?!? Hip Elevator Music is more like it.
Really shows-off how solid the original is.  Great addition.
The White Stripes took a few samples, no?
I like this! What a fun cover.

Fun. Like gee, is this fun.
Play the original or forget it!
See, THIS is what a cover should be. Bring something different to the song, don't just rehash it like you're playing a Bar Mitzvah or something.

Yes yes yes!  I love both versions.

Better than the original IMO
The original is now played in stadiums.  It was and is amazing.  But this one could be better.  Except maybe it doesn't highlight the riff enough.

Is it because he is a French guy ? Racist !!!

And where in his comment did you get that he was "racist? I was born in France and I gave it a 3.
Some sweet funk. 7->8

Going to Wichita...
This is cute. Kinda.

Yuk yuk yuk,,,

Good tune though!
Can't stand this since it has become a hymn for soccer stadiums. I prefer tennis.
This rocks!

Way to take a song and strip all the life out of it!

Pure, unadulterated garbage.

Wouldn't taking something and somehow corrupting, debasing, or otherwise changing it make it "adulterated"?

Many "great" songs get covered. You could view it as a sign of respect (or envy...or laziness). IMO, the song is solid enough to survive the "treatment" you mention and still pull me in.

Meh. Fun, I suppose, but is there really much of anything here to distinguish this from the WS original? No? Sounds like a few overdub tracks laid down on top of the original. Big deal.

Play the two versions back to back. They're chalk and cheese. I prefer this one.

aaaaah, good times {#Dance}

One could do a masters thesis on the tendency for some songs to provoke great dissension and others not so much!
(BTW, I like this version maybe more than Jack's—don't love or hate either of them.)
clever arrangment
{#Frustrated}
No room in my life for either version - way too overplayed...{#Hand}

A big ZERO
I like the White Stripes version and I like this version also.  Takes some of the bombast out of the original and puts some funk in it's place.  Good twist all the way around.
Works for me!
I've been on Jack White burnout for the last year or two, but this is reminder of what great music he's written.  Very nice cover.

Weird. For some strange reason, this tune was in my head this AM. Just turned RP on and this is the 2nd tune!

I'm off to do the lottery and put a bet on a nag!

The Stripes were heavy... This version is just plain groooovy..

since i could give a rat's ass about  the White Stripes, as in "who?", i like this tune.  kind of makes you bob up and down in the chair.  while not quite chair dancing per se, it is kind of like the bottom of a pot full of water where the bubbles start forming but don't actually break away and boil.  kind of like nucleate chair dancing.
{#Drummer}{#Dancingbanana_2} woooo!!!

ke pa
damn, it's good!!!
Two minutes and 59 seconds of joy.
Love this version. Keep playing it RP!
never heard it before. love it.
I like folks trying to add their own take on a nice tune, but this... this just sucks.  It's also a bummer that this is in fairly heavy rotation: I could prob'ly handle once per decade or so, but now it's being played about once every two weeks, which is roughly a factor of 1,000 too often.
An uninspired faux reggae rendition.
Better than the Original! (imho)

(OK, ok, Different is sometimes Better...heard the Stripes version too much perhaps....can hear you Stripes fans coming for me now....)

The whole EP is odd covers.

His version of "Barbie Girl" kills.
An example of the maxim 'being able to do something does not mean you should.'

the horror...
Bad covers of cherished songs bring a deep and abiding sadness to my heart.
I BEG that never gets played on RP again. It's like they took a good song and sucked all the good out of it. That "artist" should be electrocuted.
I really don't know what to make of this cover. Initial reaction is shock and horror. But then, it's a really good song to begin with ...
What a worthy cover.
OHMYGOD what is this deliciousness?!
The nerve the original version has is completely stripped here
OK RP...looks like I will have to turn on my White Stripes now...this is a great song lyrically and I usually listen to WS - VERY loud while I exercise.  This version is a "sing along"
I like it. Very different flavour of the song - less marching, more funky.
Cheers for the non-too-serious cover song!

Agreed!  This still gets a 7, but the Stripes version would get a solid 9, if not 10!

Even better cover of this song was performed on The Voice last week: https://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/behind-the-voice-jamar-rogers/17wharivh?cpkey=b053a436-03d1-4e75-accf-3dd69965d19c|||| (hope the link works for Americans, it doesn't work in Canada)
Ben has better than this but this is still pretty cool.

If you like Sharon Jones, you'll like this CD. His EP of covers is great!
Weak!

Original is better.
Have heard this cover on RP a LOT, and hardly ever the (much better) original. Please play the original!
Never thought I would write this but this cover and Alice Russell's are as good as the original. I'm not a big fan of covers (Wyclef doing "Wish You Were Here", anyone?) but this is a superb effort without taking the edge from the original. Good on Ben and Alice.

Greetings from London.

A Cuban in London.
It's not the the song, it's the soul. Love the muted horns played by real human beings, and Ben's expression of exactly what he is feeling: vocalization of his soul. Play it like it is, man. I'm right there with ya!
That stripes cover made my whole family spontaneously dancing around me! :) very cool!
Sweet cover!
