This old life seemed much too long
With little point in going on
I couldn't think of what to say
Words just vanished in a haze
I was feeling cold and tired
Yeah, kinda sad and uninspired

When it almost seemed too much
I see your face and sense the grace
And feel the magic in your touch

Oh, lay your hands
Lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands (woo hoo)
Oh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands

Back and forth across the sea
I have chased so many dreams
But I have never felt a grace
That I have felt in your embrace
I was tired and I was cold
Yeah, with a hunger in my soul

When it almost seemed too much
I see your face and sense the grace
And feel the magic of your touch

Oh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands on me
Lay your hands, woo hoo
Oh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands, oooh

You know make me feel so good
Yeah, like I never ever thought I would
You know you make me feel so strong
And now our laughter just goes on and on (and on)
So c'mon lay your hands on me
'Cause close to you
Is where I really wanna be

And if it ever gets too much
I see your face and sense the grace
And feel the magic in our touch

Oh, lay your hands
Lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands (Woo hoo)
Oh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands
Ooh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands (Woo hoo)
Oh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands
Oh, lay your hands on me
Oh, lay your hands

"When it almost seemed too much

It's a nice little lyrical hook...
always loved this one!

Some just walk away when trouble happens. Roger left the kindest regards. An act of love.

um, what? when was roger waters in the thompson twins?

It's not that it was great music, but it's obvious that they found their sound and put a lot of effort into making it as good as they could. Way better than a lot of the throwaway bilge that swamped their time.
I don't recall ever hearing this song before (or maybe I did 37 years ago...), but I instantly recognized the group. Part of the truly great music scene of the 80s.
a funny little band
See?!  The 80's did kick down some great music.
I'm not a huge 80s pop kinda guy, even though those were my teen years and they were super fun.... anyway, point is, i always liked this one. It's really well produced.
While attending college at WVU in 1981-1986, I attended practically every concert the university booked.  Many of them were sub-par, but live music, from an internationally known act was something we took for granted back then.

The Thompson Twins put on a really good show.

Still fantastic.

Shit.
Jesus!!!!!! It's been ages since I last heard (or remembered!!!!) this song. Nice surprise. Still a great tune. Tks RP.
I haven't heard this tune (to my recollection) in some time.  Even the local NYC market station only blows the dust off this record every once in a while.
Still fantastic.
Loved them then, love them now.  They've done some great stuff since too, under another form...
I know a lot of people don't like this song, but it's so at the center of my college soundtrack...I can't help but love it.
And this is why I love RP so very much!

I know it sounds awful to say, but the Thompson Twins had such an INCREDIBLE sound back in the day. It remains the best live show I've ever seen (although it was 99% digital) and their albums were creative and new.

Worthy of some Radio Paradise homage.

Couldn’t agree more. I loved them back in the day. Rich and full sound.
Damn, they aren't even twins
A sample ride on the Official RP Time Machine
wow - what a blast from the past!
fun little surprise, thank you PSD!  maybe when I hear a Decemberist song in 25 years I'll consider it a fun little surprise (hmm, not likely)
YES!
Found this on PSD. They had a couple of great singles circa 1984-5. I'm not sure this was one of them. Remember Madonna played with them at Live Aid. Whatever happened to her?

you really had to see these guys live to fully appreciate them...
got whiplash from that transition from Iggy Pop...
Love it
Haha!
Well this certainly didn't get any better with age...
Please make it stop.
I've already changed the station while i'm writing this comment................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Ok i changed it back, song is over!

Tiresome percussion
No - not the Thompson Twins!! They were awful in the 80's and possibly even worse now.

Good song.  Definitely has an 80s sound.
floundering between 9 and 10.  remember hearing this at White Water all the time back when I was cool enough to have a season pass over the summer
ahhh, crispy hair and shoulder pads!{#Daisy}
What a flashback!  This one was pretty good at the time - still pretty good now.
Love it.  {#Mrgreen}
