Agreed! +1 for cool band name.

Agree but David is still making music. The influence he has had on Aus music can't be underestimated.

I figured this song from 1987 would have preceded Blueman group but I just googled it and Blueman started in 1987 too, so your theory may have some validity.

Sack the percussionist.
Is it me, or can anyone else hear a some Terraplane Blues in there? Not as directly quoted as Led Zeppelin in Trampled Under Foot, but there?

Except there's absolutely no violin.

Like, where's the synth?
Please consider playing more from this band.

Yeah, I can hear that, especially with the bongos. A little Philip Glass-y too.

Thank you RP.  A big surge down some long, unused neural pathways for Not Drowning, Waving.

Yeah. I thought it was an extended live intro to Tales of Endurance by Supergrass...but no...

The journey is the destination.

I agree... I think it relates to the recurring melody...it just feels like it's ready to move into a chorus that never comes.
Interestingly Talk Talk-ish guitar in the background.

Well, there's no bridge or progression change, but I guess it arrives at its intended (ambient) destination.

The only their album I heard was "Claim" - about 15 years ago. Never heard this song, neither album, but reminded that wave and recognized the group in 15 seconds. Own special sound is not often nowadays.

Not too far away from Jean-Luc Ponty
Do you suppose it's pronounced boo-jee? I'm going with that.
fun thanks : )
Moved from 7 to 8

WHAT? Do you mean Mississippi Queen/Theme from an Imaginary Western Mountain?

Yes, I can hear a very clear similarity.  {#Stupid}
...but they need a certain song?
HOW is this from 1987? My first listen just now - loved it! {#Music}
Why, yes sir, i do believe they can boogie.

Sounds a lot like Mountain.

I keep waiting for this to turn into another song.  Not sure, but I think it's PJ Harvey's A Place Called Home?

Not Waving but Drowning
By Stevie Smith

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he’s dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

...duck season!..
Ahhh.......happy ears!
They also recorded the soundtrack for the Aussie film Proof, starring Hugo Weaving and a very young Russell Crowe

Is the newest album as good as this song? {#Yes}?? Tell me yes

...newest album?..they haven't recorded any new material since circus in 1993, discounting the hammers soundtrack and maps for sonic adventurers remixes...

...but yes, all three of their post-cold and the crackle albums are outstanding: claim, tabaran, and circus...their most recent compilation, through the one last door, isn't a bad place to start, either...
Is the newest album as good as this song? {#Yes}?? Tell me yes
...hah - what a kick to hear this one here!..

...it's later reworked on the album claim as the track wobble, with some fun loony tunes samples dropped in for good measure: probably the better-known version (if any not drowning waving can be called better-known)...
And there was me expecting the old Motown song of the same name, and getting ready for a bit of disco nostalgia, but that's RP for you - forever confounding expectations. This is...interesting and could maybe grow on me, but wtf it has to do with boogie I've no idea. An initial 6 from the discombobulated Nottingham jury.
Most definitely digging it.

"Still the dead one lay moaning. I was much too far out all of my life. Not waving but drowning"
Just another good reason to be listening to RP

Catchy stuff. Never heard of them.
