(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)

I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in
I found my mind in a brown paper bag within
I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in

(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)

I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in
I got up so tight I couldn't unwind
I saw so much I broke my mind
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in

(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my condition was in)

Someone painted "April Fool" in big black letters on a "Dead End" sign
I had my foot on the gas as I left the road and blew out my mind
Eight miles outta Memphis and I got no spare
Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in

I said I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
Yeah yeah oh-yeah

Love this tune. Not sure who did the original, but you should check out the version from Mickey Newbury.
Holy cow.  Glen Campbell has a guitar solo here, says Wikipedia.  Now I need to hear the track again.

Great story!
Trippy!
wow! I never knew he sang songs like this :)
They play Pandora in my dentist office, This came on and I told my hygienist it was Kenny Rodgers and she didn't believe me.  I actually have this album on vinyl.
RIP KR

It‘s funny, but I‘m so convinced that most RP listeners habe actually seen The Big Lebowski. And here I am sitting in the kitchen with my 23-year old flatmate and I‘m just rockin to the music on my chair and recalling some fun scenes of the movie and she doesn‘t even react to the sound coming from the speakers. I feel like at one point young people just didn‘t catch this era of Lebowski and alike classics anymore. Fortunately I have some really good friends my age (29) and there‘s always that one night every once in a while when we just pull the dvd out of the shelf and sit back and enjoy some Coen Brother‘s classic. Unfortunately though most of the times there‘s no Kahlúa in the house.. Cheers, RP-Lovers! And cheers, Rebecca and Bill! Stay healthy everybody!

Interesting comment as we just watched this movie, for the first time, the other weekend, like a year after your post. Most excellent, wonderful soundtrack that had me pausing the credits to get in all the musical contributions.

Yes The Dude abides.
Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah!
Ya see, this 'hippie' music is whats rong with amarica

i'll take me someone in a pair of cowboys boots and a hat singing about good old american values over this vagrant krap anyday

P.S.
I think Mr.Rogers deserves a 'double shot,' this song into 'Gambler.' (or some Dolly) I know that is probably not quite RP values, but does any other Artist have such contrast on this playlist?

The ironically funny thing is that this is an anti-drug song. And it's most famous for a sequence that alludes heavily to drug influence.

Ironically funny? That poses a question, doesn't it?

I always thought Kenny was strictly a country singer. RP proves me wrong! :)
I'm old enough to remember when Kenny Rogers and The First Edition had their own show on TV in Canada.
Instantly thinking of the Dude's dream when hearing this song.

Today seems to be the day for songs from great movies. Already heard music from Amélie and Big Fish.

I just watched this again this weekend for the first time in years.  It's so good.
Just noticed he mentions Memphis. It’s tied to all rock and roll.

Who Knew is right.  Yes, it seems like everyone knew, but Jeeze...KR!

Kenny psyche rocks on this tune.
This brought a smile to my face.  Listening to this during a time of Corona virus, put the song in a whole new light (for me anyway)...

I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in
I got up so tight I couldn't unwind
I saw so much I broke my mind
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
And now the stories come out about the condition he was in...let'em judge. KR was a huge player and his chicken was pretty darn good too. Godspeed, Mr. Rogers.
😎 waaay cool
RIP Mr. Rogers!
