Winter's cityside, crystal bits of snowflakes
All around my head and in the wind
I had no illusions that I'd ever find
A glimpse of summer's heatwaves in your eyes
You did what you did to me
Now it's history I see
Here's my comeback on the road again
Things will happen while they can
I will wait here for my man tonight
It's easy when you're big in Japan

When you're big in Japan, tonight
Big in Japan, be tight
Big in Japan, where the Eastern sea's so blue
Big in Japan, alright
Pay, then I'll sleep by your side
Things are easy when you're big in Japan
When you're big in Japan...

Neon on my naked skin
Passing silhouettes
Of strange illuminated mannequins
Shall I stay here at the zoo
Or shall I go and change my point of view
For other ugly scenes
You did what you did to me
Now it's history I see
Things will happen while they can
I will wait here for my man tonight
It's easy when you're big in Japan

When you're big in Japan, tonight
Big in Japan, be tight
Big in Japan, oo the Eastern sea's so blue
Big in Japan, alright
Pay, then I'll sleep by your side
Things are easy when you're big in Japan
When you're big in Japan, tonight
Big in Japan, be tight
Big in Japan, oo the Eastern sea's so blue
Big in Japan, alright

The skiing is good there this season!

I'm 5'8" and loved being in Japan because while I didn't feel big, I also didn't feel short!
Perhaps not big enough:

Oh well!

I'm sorry, but the 80's sound defined a legitimate musical genre in about the same way that breakfast cereal commercial jingles do.  I know nothing about Alphaville and they might be the greatest band since the Beatles, but the fact that they were comfortable releasing something that so patently resembled all the rest of that dross makes me feel justified in dismissing them out of hand.

Go ahead and tell me why I'm wrong.  While you're at it, tell me why "Honeycomb's big, yeah yeah yeah..." was also a work of genius.

Go on, tell me...you know you want to...

Being a Karen here, right? Spoiling the fun dude!!! Not saying would listen to this all day long, but common, it was an era of fun. Just sayin....

THE WEST IS THE BEST... Nishi Honshu, mochiron, sugoi! Noto, San-in, San-yo, Hagi, Tsuwano, Matsue, Kurashiki, Miyajima... Check out Yufu-in, Ibusuki, Ishigaki- and Hateruma-jima, too! (I advise staying to the west of the mountains that protect Western Japan from the still-melting, still-leaking, interminably ongoing Fukushima reactor disaster... To me, it seems that with the way the Alaskan Current, local topography, and winds work, the timeless, historic, seafood-rich realm of Nishi Honshu may be among the last places on Earth the radiation reaches.)

i feel 15 again! crazy! i remember exactly where i was when i listened to this.
I know this song through a cover by a 90s German pop rock outfit called Guano Apes. Check it out – definitely a different vibe. However, having now heard the original I much prefer it. Less teenage angst, more 80s synth. Excellent. Thanks, RP!

One of my first 12 inch singles.....along with Yazoo and Depeche Mode! Melody overload.....love it!
Wirklich gut war dieser Song nie.
Didn't like it too much then and don't like any more today.
But it's fun to know that Bill throws these things in once in a while. Makes the song coming after this even more enjoyable!
So everyone enjoy it while it lasts!
This is not a guilty pleasure. Just a pleasure.
Great memories... Almost nobody in the UK  seems to knows this band, or any of these 80s "euro pop bands" that were ultra popular on the continent.
I liked this song then and I still like it. Alphaville is one of my favorite 80's bands.

(I would love some Erasure on here -just a little can't hurt)

This version is in minor, not in major.
Love this version and the one from Guano Apes: Big in Japan
Ok, this might then be a version for the rock mix...

In West Germany in the mid eighties (this song again in the mid 1990ies performed by Guano Apes) but I think they were famous all over Europe. ;)

So you're saying I'm consistent, then.  And I'll suggest, respectfully, that you're pedantic.

I'm sad for anyone who thinks this represents "fun".  To use a comparison I read on Radio Paradise somewhere, this song is to "fun" what rain is to a parade.
Reminds me of the New Wave dance nights at local clubs back in college.  Haven't heard of these folks but fun none-the-less.
love this one
I miss the 80's.....

This androgynous techno-pop is to the 80's what disco was to the 70's.  I'm really glad that RP generally doesn't play disco and I really wish they'd steer clear of most of this drivel too.  It seems like a change of tack for the station and I have to admit that I just don't much listen to RP anymore because of it.

oh those were fun times  : )
I think this deserves a bit more than retro sympathy.

I loved when it was new and I find it holds up well. The synth and drum sounds are crap, but it's a well-constructed song.
{#Sunny}
I was 18 when this came out too. Wasn't sure if I liked it then, but do now more so now, maybe because it is nostalgic.
Yup, instant flashback to the teen years {#Music}
Flashback to 18 years old, Friday nights dancing in the bomb shelter disco on an Israeli kibbutz drunk on Sangria made with leftover Shabbat wine made by the Spanish volunteers...
Men Without Hats have a beef with this track. I like it in a throwback kind of way.
Time do some dusting and dancing!
Well from Münster Germany to RP, not bad, not bad at all! {#War}

cool tune, and beautiful lips on that silver-leafed persona
You played something yesterday which reminded me of this.

A token one hit wonder which ironically didnt chart in Japan, but then they didnt release a japanese version.

the second verse sticks out as well written and thought provoking 6 ish

Neon on my naked skin

Of strange illuminated mannequins
Shall I stay here at the zoo
Or shall I go and change my point of view

7 for nostalgia, it holds up okay but still feels out of place.

Wow - this takes me back...... not sure that's a good thing!
Some 80's fits the RP.

Not this one.

There are far worse tunes than this.  I'm not sure why you feel embarrassed about it.
I think that album is from 1984, not 1989... Summer in Berlin was a great song of that album.
Alphaville, Erasure and Information Society. Good in the 80s. Not so much now. 4.

Hory cow! I don't think I've heard this in a very long time, but I was definitely much younger the last time I did...
I might have enjoyed this song if I didn't immediately assume the Satellite Radio was on and I was tuned to First Wave.  They are desperately in love with this song, and as a result, I ... am not.
