I knew a girl with sad blue eyes
But at the feast I lost my psychic prize
I did forget what the tarot maid did say
I burn today
I burn today

Our house was filled with many birds
She said to me, ''"I can understand their words"''
The land will shake so run away
I burn today
I burn today

Yes, today I will burn
For the times I did not learn

She said, ''"Have fun, its time has come
Hold my heart strings and have yourself a strum."''
No nevermore, this song will we play
I burn today
I burn today

And as I drank in old Paris
She laid her cards just to see what she would see
Down by the water you'll find your happy days
I burn today
I burn today

Yes, today I will burn
For the times I did not learn

I ran so fast into the North
No snow on me, and so you said thenceforth
I let snow fall on frozen yesterday
I burn today
I burn today

And if my head is hanging down
I feel her arms and her legs are all around
And we make love beside the waterway
I burn today
I burn today

Yes, today I will burn
For the times I did not learn

Behold the rose of Jericho
How many lives I really do not know
Though with the rain I know it will return
Today I burn
Today I burn

he's got a Van Morrision guitar riff
always interesting - in every thing he does always mixes it up. sounds like an old, tradional tune done by an artist who likes a bit of ambiguity
I really dig this {#Whistle}

I love that song.  Wish it was played on RP.
An honest song for a dishonest time

Even more odd was that before this Issac Hayes - Walk on By played.  I am going to Burning man because I was married for nearly 20 years and I am now divorced.  I am taking my issues and burning them in the sand.  I got the last set of pics of her and put them in order.  From the first set we took to the last set.  You can see the procession.  Anyway, its over now.  When I get back it starts a new.

This sounds like a solo endeavor anyway, and hope that your demons go up in smoke.
BTW, Walk on By - not the Dionne Warwick hit? I could google it but I don't want to see what she is doing now...went a bit off the last I knew... I think Burt Baccharat (that gamblin' man - heehee) wrote most of her hits?

Sounds like a cry for help from the OP
Well crap! I thought this was Steve Earle. WAY off. Frank is doing well post Pixies IMO!

I love that you've used Sting and LR as good examples, but Wilco as a bad example.
Taste transplant for Michaeljcovel, please.

You literally have almost 1 in 5 songs played on RP as a 1...just seems like really significant troll behavior to me...perhaps you should stick to Facebook...

Where do you hear Lionel Ritchie or Sting? I hear a striving to be Dylan in his off years, or Chris Rea.

That after all the nice things he's said about you. Common decency eludes some of us I guess.
Don’t understand the lyrics and mores the better. Catchy tune
A lot of thinkings with Frank songs. Love his sensibility

From "Yes, I'm Cold" to "I Burn Today". Nicely done, Bill.

PSD.
There are many songs like it, but this one is his.
Another first for me here at RP.
Yesterday, or this morning, or 10 minutes ago, my question was Black Francis, who is that?
Now I know.

Long may I burn? I like it, but I do hear the similarity.

Today, I am leaving North Carolina for BurningMan.  I am driving solo after two back out's by my cousin and my friend.  My cousin told me last week he was not going.  Over the weekend my childhood friend said he would go.  This morning before we are supposed to go, he calls me and says he is not longer going.  It was funny.  He told me," I can take this.  I did manuvears in the Sinai.  Its been a long time since I've bivouac'd."

What the fsck ever.

I wish you the best.  Enjoy the ride.
These lyrics are worthy of Bob Dylan.
I dont care that this is Frank Black, the song is still a bit too ho-hum for me, the lyrics predictable

I hope last year's BMan worked out so well you went again — sounds like an abrupt turn in your life.

I love all things Frank Black, Kim Deal and the Pixies!!{#Bananajam}
this is a good song—-i had it on my ipod and heard it several times before it actually became quite relevant to my life. i recently put it on a compilation i made for some friends.
I'd like to burn one right now as a matter of fact.......

Sounds like a little Byrds influence...
Reminds me of many Eels songs. Very likable and light sounding.
OooO it's been awhile since I've heard this song. They lyrical content of this is like a Buffet for my ears. I call it Audio Bliss, always makes me smile...

You don't like the Pixies either, Excelsior.  In fact, I don't think there has been a song on here that you've given a positive review of.  Why are you here?

This guy is a talentless hack, and it's even more obvious when he doesn't have the rest of the Pixies around.
I'm really glad I came across RP a couple of years back because on the whole the quality of music is excellent, and the taste really is eclectic such that every day I'm surprised, very pleasantly so, by the playlist. On occasions there are runs of tunes that are just stonking, so good that it stops me leaving work on time and brightens up the whole day. On rarer occasions, there are runs that are exactly the opposite and make even the sunniest day dull, and sadly this is the 10th number in such a run, the highest ranking in which has been a 4. I can take the rough with the smooth and there'll be some who'd sell their first born for the latest sequence, but I'm in danger of falling asleep at the keyboard here. C'mon, Bill and Becky, let's have some ZIP! Please!

If you don't like him - say so. That lyric fits fine into the context of the song. But you're obviously not listening .... move along then. I like Frank - although his insistence on rambling on about UFO's is a bit tiresome. His songs are entertaining, they stand on their head a bit and do a couple of cartwheels instead of walking around congratulating themselves like some alt rockers do with their tomes of the day. And another positive point - the boy can rock. - Riff
this is nice departure for Frank

Frank Black must groove to Steve Forbert...
Good stuff.
This is probably the best new song I've heard on RP in the last 3 months. Unbelievable to me that someone from the Pixies could go to this.
Great song -- from a great album. This is Frank's most personal work, and it can be heart-wrenching to listen closely to it. For this Frank Black/Pixies fan, it's his finest solo work to date. Listen especially to "My Life Is In Storage." Wow.

Good thing we have the Taste Police on the scene in the form of Officer Mugro to make sure that nobody deviates from the presumably exacting, though actually unspoken and likely quite nebulous, standards that said Officer Mugro would enforce to protect the republic from the perniciousness of the untalented.
