Love is a stranger in an open car
To tempt you in and drive you far away
Love is a stranger in an open car
To tempt you in and drive you far away

And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession
And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession

Love is a danger of a different kind
To take you away and leave you far behind
And love, love, love is a dangerous drug
You have to receive it and you still can't get enough of the stuff

It's savage and it's cruel and it shines like destruction
Comes in like the flood and it seems like religion
It's noble and it's brutal, it distorts and deranges
And it drenches you up and you're left like a zombie

And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession

It's guilt edged, glamorous and sleek by design
You know it's jealous by nature, false and unkind
It's hard and restrained and it's totally cool
It touches and it teases as you stumble in the debris

And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession
And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession
And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession
And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession

Jeepers -- I thought I was the only one who heard this.  Thank you for adding it to your collection of earworms.
Wow, listen to that--then listen to Spiders (Kidsmoke) by Wilco. Makes me wonder about (positive musical) influences...

Avante-garde songwriting at it’s finest. Annie Lennox has such a beautiful voice.
We need a Eurythmics tour...........................
"Love is a stranger and speaks a strange language" (Rumi, mystical poet)

Stewart's semi-masturbatory additions are reminiscent of Stewie's Perfect Pig in the Road to the Multiverse episode OINK!
This song isn't just really great.
It's truth.

Same here!   IDK! The grunts GOTTA GO!!!
A long-time friend and I danced to this song at a party. It swept us up together and held us close and I swear at that moment we knew we'd marry.  Brilliant song on its own merits, of course.

I'm wondering if they remixed this for the greatest hits...

I don't remember all those grunts being quite so prominent when this song was all over the radio.

wonderful!
is this a very subtle segue?

last song:
pretend we're in Antarctica
(Which I didn't decipher until about halfway through, wondering what kind of car he was talking about...)

this one:
Love is a stranger in an open car

if so,  @William, I'm tracking!
The writeup doesn't mention Annie's remarkable Medusa album.
And I want you, and I want you, and I want you so it's an obsession

After 40 years I finally find out what it is she's singing after "I want you".  I don't know if it's the Scottish accent but I just can't make that line out.

I've been seeing "more cowbell" on these forums for over a decade. Today, I finally Googled the term and found the SNL skit.... Pretty funny!
My education continues. Slowly.
I never get tired of this song.  Need to remember it when I have my headphones on.
I've spent my whole life thinking it was
'and I want you, something circumcision'
That's what kids sang at school and I never questioned it. Thought it was very odd though...

This has held up surprisingly well.

Personally I think this is sounding better than ever - and there was a time I didn't think the synth pop genre had longevity. I've changed my mind. Love this.

Change the opening line to 'love is a stranger in an unmarked white van' and the whole song is transformed. {#Cheesygrin}

SUCH a fantastic track and Annie's voice is pure magic. {#Music}
Pure awesomeness. I'm getting the musical shivers. I can imagine the conversation though "I'm going to sort of, just grunt at this bit. Ok?"
Released in 1982; this Greatest Hits album is from 1986.

I like this song. But no matter what I try, I will always hear her singing about a circumcision.

Totally a good description of the song and band...
There was some astonishing harmonica player on their live tour, Revenge I think.....  Never heard anything like it.
Always preferred this to "Sweet Dreams" and "Here Comes the Rain Again".  Sadly, them others always got more air play.  It's tough having tastes slightly out-of-sync with the mainstream. {#Confused}  God bless RP.

Okay.  So I define the 80's as 1977 to 1984.

I suffer from that exact chronological disorder. I wonder, are there more of us? Also, this song. Treasure.

A 6 that would be higher if there was any evidence of human involvement here.  Yeah, I know, Annie's voice...but you can do some of those flourishes with machines in the studio these days.

Funny you should say that, I am lucky enough to have a bit of a monster hi-fi- set up and this sounds utterly amazing on it. By 'this' I mean the CD or vinyl not a nastily compressed MP3 signal!
