We've gone a long way
So why don't we stay here?
The hour is late
And this ain't a bad place
So why don't we stay?

The road's an old friend, we've walked it forever
And wandered away

Away...

Got dirt in my eyes
And ran out of water, conversations ran dry
We got lost in the highway
We're stuck in the north now
So why don't we stay?

The road is my friend, but friends are forever
And roads like to bend

Bend...

We've gone a long way...

No radio stations,
No signal to send
The road is my friend
But this is the end

The end ...

i love this comment.

i genuinely like the cardigans and i think persson's voice is fantastic (sure, i can see the sheryl crow comments, but i think that's because they both often sing in this  same key, but she's much better/easier to hear than crow's nasal quality). however, this one is a little too long imho.
First time hearing this track although a fan of the band (ashamed :))) Thanks for diggin' RP!
Dear fucknut commentators below me yes you. If you don’t have anything nice to say - fuck right off. Yep - the fast forward button works and we don’t need to hear your whiny crap. “Boohoo I don’t like this.” This is one of the best sounding singers and bands in the past 20 years.
An OK song, that's 3-4 mins too long.
Comatose
Thought this was Sheryl Crow at first.

They are from my hometown.

Still boring.

An interesting observation: Usually I listen to RP through my PC speakers at work, quietly as to not intrude upon my coworkers. The average song I rate around a 5 or 6 unless it's something I like a lot. However, every now and then I listen through my Shure headphones. Not as convenient because I can't hear the environment around me, such as the boss, etc. I have noticed that many songs I have previously rated a 6 sound like a 7 through the Shures. I think that being able to really hear a song as opposed to kind of hearing it at quiet volumes would automatically send the rating up one notch. This is probably obvious to many people, but this song really pointed it out to me. Must listen through the Shures more often.

Yes it sounds better on headphones...as a consultant who is forced to work in close proximity to people in all kinds of office environments, you should always wear headphones out of courtesy to others in the modern open plan offices..people need to concentrate and you should also avoid heavy scent/perfume or cologne and loud gum chewing
Love this track... although something about the vocal and track production keeps making me think it is Sheryl Crow... strange that the vocal similarly between Crow and Nina Persson never struck me before (given I listened to both quite a bit in the late 90s!) - so perhaps I'm inventing it on this track and it doesn't exist at all :p

Just the speed I reckon.  Doesn't match Mazzy Star for haunting beauty.

Did you end up with a "(Saturday Night) FEVER?" What you need is more cowbell (ok, tambourine in this case)!
This one has a Mazzy Star feel to it.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but Orton does an incredible duet called Pass in Time on her Central Reservation album.

Me2; definitely some similarities.

most excellent, underrated band

I was thinking Sue Fogerty.

I thought this was something different from Sheryl Crow.  Wow.
Sounds like The Cardigans !  Nice voice !
To add to the comparisons: listen to Carol van Dyk, lead singer of the Dutch indie-band 'Bettie Serveert'. Their album Lamprey is most excellent! Deserves attention from RP once and a while. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bettie_Serveert

Or a compliment, if they are artists they aspire to be like.  I think for this song the comparisons come about because it sounds very different from the other well-known Cardigans songs — not as pop, more depth — which (at least for me) is unexpected from them.

***BTW — my vote is for Mazzy Star
(but it was nicely paired today back to back with Neko Case - Deep Red Bells)

So,.a cop is driving down the freeway, when he sees an old lady driving while knitting a sweater! He pulls up alongside her and motions for her to pull over. What? she says. Pull over, shouts the cop!  No, she says...Cardigan!

Or you could by a pair of cans with open back - sounds generally better than both miniplugs and closed cans.
Plus you aren't isolated (whenever this is a good thing, work etc).

Sennheiser has a lot of good open ones. Personally I prefer the HD650 (or 600) - unbeatable for RP type of music.
When you later on are looking for even more pleasure, just get yourself a oldschool tube-phoneamp to hook up your Senns with your 128k AAC RP-broadcast. Now you're in heaven - music heard like never before.

Anyways, nice song!

{#Think} ..  {#Yes}  .. {#High-five}
I though I was listening to a female remix of 'The Cedar Room' by the Doves at first.

The singer sounds like Bettie Serveert, but not quite as good.

I listen most of the time on my Sennheisers; listening at low volume through speakers just isn't the same and many songs would not get quite as much notice from me. Thankfully, my work environment is such that no one minds me quickly slipping off the cans when they need to come in and talk to me.

I was just reading back through the comments and almost all of them say "She sounds like ...".  I was thinking Lucinda Williams and several others hear it too.

That's like comparing Star Wars (Original Trilogy) to Star Trek -- Just because they are different doesn't mean they both aren't good. Neko's music is like Star Trek II: Wrath of Kahn , it is great, but a little tougher to penetrate than the Cardigans music, which reminds me of Return of the Jedi: kinda cheesy but has a much bigger audience (see: Lovefool, circa 1996). Believe it or not, there are people out there that aren't hipsters with tight jeans and emo haircuts that actually prefer Cardigans to Neko Case. Instead of being bitter, be like me and realize that both artists have something cool to offer. Kind of like Star Wars movies and Star Trek movies.

Nina Persson's is really a gem. How she isn't better known, with pipes like that, I don't know. And then, to top it off, she's incredibly beautiful, and that's from a guy who's actually met her. Wow. Overall, a nice song.
awe, we are still playing this sheet?!

They are the best thing to come from Sweden since IKEA, Vovlo (cross country station Wagons) I like most of the Swedes who play in the NHL too but they where those stupid looking Jofa helmets with the big visors and stay out of the corners too much.
This is the end? Unfortunately, not.

The Cardigans' bid for an epic. I like. After several listens, I suspect I'll like it even more.
