It is an interesting and certainly a valid (IMHO) comment. The Blues genre is certainly very broad, especially when one adds in the roots sector. On the other hand I really love the heady mix of music here and I find that there is a certain flow to it that appeals to me. I remember a Dave Raven, a well-loved DJ  saying that he would not apologise for occasionally playing tracks that were not strictly blues on his "Raven n the Blues" podcast.  I also follow the excellent Bandana Blues podcast which is quite a heady mix of genres. I guess that with music, it is often how one feels in the moment.

Makes me wish I was back in Chi-Town for the Blues Festival this weekend.  Chicago was a great place to grow up, and I can't believe it's been thirty years since I moved west:0

Maybe I'll tune into wxrt.com today to see how the festival is going.  It's the only other "radio station" I'll listen to besides RP...

Guitarists Luther Johnson, Bob Margolin (who was in Muddy's road band for years), and Johnny Winter are all credited in the liner notes. The break on this one sounds an awful lot like Winter.

Ahh, yes! I can tell you that the Bluesfest in Chicago is alive and well, even though Muddy Waters is not. I went with my wife and four month old son (trying to raise him right!) this past June, and it was a blast!! We saw Koko Taylor, Buddy Guy and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. The only thing that I regretted was not being alive to see the first bluesfest in Chicago, which featured Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and other deceased blues icons.

For a more frequent dose of the blues in Chicago: Friday afternoons from 5 to 7 or 8, Buddy Guy's has a free acoustic set. Not so crowded, pretty chill, great gumbo, and $6 pitchers (small) of Honkers.
