Holy rollers
desperate time was stolen
all your magic has been turnin back
dont you know your touch is far from golden
we'll be movin before you attack

I've got to learn to love again
just livin my life is bittersweet

Rain is falling hard into the river
time is slipping inbetween the cracks
touch me and you will be struck my lightning
so dont be shy
dont be holding back

I've got to learn to love again
just livin my life is bittersweet

Rain is falling hard into the river

what an observation!!   Sorry it took me 11 years to read it!

I don't think I even read floydoftherocks handle when I made the comment back then.  But I still can't understand how two Primus fans could have such differing opinions on this singer though.   I will say, on this tune he sounds like Ozzy, War Pigs era,  and that's a good thing!
I saw Galactic with opening band High & Mighty Brass Band in Blacksburg, VA, February 2019.  Both were great, but at the end, they did a 20 minute encore with about 1/2 of each band.  F*ing amazing.  I only wish it had been recorded.
504ever
Excellent!! I never heard of them before. Thank You RP!
This song is so dope. I be over here just bobbin my head and burning the midnight oil!
Quirky, but that's what I expect from RP......and I liked it! Win-win.
I don't wanna be a soldier mamma I don't wanna die..brings this Lenon tune to mind
Very interesting stuff comes out of New Orleans, this is a prime example!
Saw this band twice at the Mangy Moose in Jackson Hole. Awesome shows,  awesome band, awesome musicians.
Boy, there's some good musicians in that bunch.

One of the best album graphic's in recent memory
Holy cow. Bill and Rebecca just played the following sequence:
Hello Sunshine -- Bruce Springsteen
The Dangerous Ones -- Kasey Anderson
Powder Finger -- Beat Farmers
New Orleans is Sinking -- Tragically Hip
Saint Judas -- Natalie Merchant
Might Makes Right -- Camper Van Beethoven
Bittersweet -- Galactic

That's a pretty strong theme. Very well played!

In case you weren't trying to be funny......https://pothead.de/

This one's still a 9 for me, and in the middle of a 3x9 set by BillG (Evor's 'Rain' and Dr. John's 'Right Place Wrong Time' on either side of this tune.  Long Live RP and all the great tunes you play, BnR!!

Wow!  I can't think of a statement I disagree with more.   Everytime I saw Galactic I always thought "Amazing band, but that singer is so cheesy!"  They would always play a few killer instrumentals at the beginning of the set and get the crowd rocking, then he'd come on stage and begin the cheesefest, totally change the vibe of the show.  Then after a while, he'd exit and the band would play a few more psych/jam instrumentals and bring the crowd back to its previous hights   I never like to hear about musician's with health problems, but in Galactic's case I felt it was exactly what the band needed to do what they really wanted as musicians.

Agreed. Have you heard their recent stuff though? Its an interesting change...some of which I really like, but some I don't at all. I did see them live a while back with two members of Jurassic 5 and that was a really good show...though even then I wanted to hear more instrumental stuff!

I love Galactic!

i saw them with theryl years ago and i saw them once when it was just the band (minus theryl) and there was no "show" — just a bunch of guys with instruments trying to fill in the empty spaces.. i recall people looking at each other in the audience being like "why isn't this fun anymore?"

then i saw them in fall '07 when they were touring with a bunch of hip-hop guys and it was OK but let's face it.. the real power of galactic is theryl.. they need to clone him and restore their act otherwise they're not worth seeing even for $10.

Obviously would have to be written by a hybrid, but what about the band?  Maybe some Brothers Cavil on horns, Sharon Valerii on bass, a Centurion on drums (built in sticks and all), Anders or Tyrol for vocals.

I really should be working ... {#Mrgreen}

They're MUCH better live than recorded. I lived in NOLA when they were just a bunch of kids getting started and they were smoking hot. I bought their CD at the time and it sucks. I couldn't believe it was the same band.
I was o.k. with this until the chorus -- killed it for me.

The lead vocal pushed me to recall Mark Broussard, who is likely the younger of the two. ^_^

this song reminds me of bo bice. man, i miss that dude!
Got to meet these guys at Bele Chere this year. I'd heard of them but hadn't heard them. I was certainly impressed. Their drummer has a sort of signature thing in that he uses a second kick drum. Yeah I know lots of drummers use two kick drums but this one is an a antique marching band bass drum. The thing is huge - something like 28" across. I stood by the side of the stage the drum faces while they played and every time he hit it you'd feel it moving the air 20 feet away. Wow. 'Liked the grooves and playing all around. They had my friends, Art & Al from The Gamble Bros Band up several times to sit in and they were pretty nice guys in general. I hope to hear more of them.
Riders on the storm... I've been into these guys for a long time...still love hearing them on RP. Quite likeable tune for me.
hmmm . . . yes exactly how i would imagine a band with the name 'galactic' would sound. good stuff.

When this song started, I thought its was "Clock Strikes Twelve" by Cheap Trick. But it wasn't. And I kind of like it.
How is the rest of this album anybody know?
From a 7 to an 8. Like this the more I hear it. Thanks!
Always liked this song. Find myself grooving along... while I pretend to work
I've always liked the word, "ruckus". Hard to work it into a sentence without sounding like it's the only reason you opened your mouth though. Hey, what's all the ruckus about!? Something like that.
These guys are awesome live--white band, black vocalist. Everything grooves. There is some better stuff off of their album "Crazyhorse Mongoose" though...
Attempts to groove, but fails.
I've heard several Galactic albums, and it's all pretty solid, rockin' sutff. If you like these guys, the aforementioned Widespread Panic is a good addition, and I would also suggest the North Mississippi All-Stars. Big, fat, noisy swamp rock! It's a good thing.
I had it turned down for a phone call and my first reaction was ewwwww... I turned it up a little and it sounds a bit better made it to a six.
Hmm, Galactic's best stuff isn't on the playlist, guess it's time to upload!

I really like the funky groove.
Proposed set: - Galactic - Bittersweet - REM - Bittersweet Me - Ed Harcourt - Bittersweetheart - Big Head Todd & The Monsters - Bittersweet

You should hear the other stuff. This song, while very good, is not very representative of Galactic. It's always good to hear the Houseman though!!
I like the song...does this remind anyone else of one of the regular vocalists of school house rock...conjunction junction it think it was?
I like the funkiness of this tune...
Stanton Moore (drummer) is fantasic. He has a few "solo" projects and is also now collaborating with Robert Walter, etc. in an outfit called Frequinox. Haven't seen them yet.. can anyone comment?
Check out Garage a Trois you can listen to a free show on www.nugs.net
Definitely prefer this band live. But this CD (especially this song) isn't bad. Enlisting Dan "the automator" Nakamura was a welcome influence and I think extends the avenues this band is willing to travel to make great music.
I had always thought this was just another DMB run-on song. Never bothered to check until now.
im a fan of galactic. other songs are better tho.

Agreed. Instrumentals are preferable -- sometimes the Houseman can be a little annoying. Galactic is STELLAR live. I had a dancing epiphany at Tipitinas several years ago at JazzFest... they played until the morning light streamed in the windows. Twas beautiful. Stanton Moore (drummer) is fantasic. He has a few "solo" projects and is also now collaborating with Robert Walter, etc. in an outfit called Frequinox. Haven't seen them yet.. can anyone comment?
Galactic is a funky band from NO, LA. Been around since the mid-nineties. Have 4-5 albums. Mostly instumental stuff but same vocalist once or twice an album. https://www.galacticfunk.com/
This sounds like a Widespread Panic song

This rocks! Love the drums.
Ooh, these guys got a LIFEHOUSE kina groove goin' plus MORPHINE(?) Driving beat...I like it, I like it, it's good... A 7.

Er, for a moment I thought David Lee Roth got involved in a more serious project A real good, raw singing voice and some serious groove going on! Much to like here.

Evidently. Meters on Morphine is more like it.
And I thought MORPHINE was the only band to use bari sax! I LOVE me some bari.
I usually like Galactic, but this song is kinda weak...their shows are incredible!
Galacticly awful.

Hello John: Johng wrote:
Am I the only one that thought this was ZZ Top?
No. But since I own Crazyhorse Mongoose, which sounds a lot like the Meters crossed with R&B -- my point of reference is very different! I like this song, and I liked Hamp's Hump (which had better sonics -- if you think *these* drums are good...), but a lot of the rest of the album is less consistent. I might consider this one. Neil
