It gets a nine from me but on reflection half of that score really goes to RP for playing it.  Lounge lizard Ferry is the apparent antithesis of "Going Down".  So 4.5 to Ferry and 4.5 to RP.

Bryan Ferry represents a clear, cool departure from the everyday world of groovy "Rock-n'-Roll-It's-Got-A-Good-Beat-And-You-Can-Dance-To-It- Mister-Clark-I'll-Give-It-A-95" standard bullsh*t. You have to watch out as he pitches the curve-ball/curve-ball/SINKER! Unique musician; perhaps an acquired taste  I can see from the comments. Tjhe first time I nheard thie, I'd NEVER IMAGINED that someone had covered this, one of our truly favorite songs. It quite blew me away.

I still like Jeff Beck's cover the best, but Ferry's is good too--it is the understated complement to Beck's driving version. As to the album, Frantic, nothing Ferry does really fits that description, but it is slightly livelier than his typical croon. It also grows on you with repeated listenings; at first I was not thrilled with the Dylan covers, I have changed my tune completely.
