Doctor, my eyes have seen the years
And the slow parade of fears without crying
Now I want to understand
I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long

'Cause I have wandered through this world
And as each moment has unfurled
I've been waiting to awaken from these dreams
People go just where they will
I never noticed them until I got this feeling
That it's later than it seems
Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what you see
I hear their cries
Just say if it's too late for me

Doctor, my eyes
I Cannot see the sky
Is this the prize for having learned how not to cry......

Does the female form make you uncomfortable, Mr. Floydoftherocks? Browne's art has been commended as strongly vaginal, which bothers some men. The word itself makes some men uncomfortable. Vagina.  They don't like hearing it, they find it difficult to say whereas without batting an eye, a man will refer to his dick or his rod or his...johnson.

Maybe he MEANT  to  say marGINAL?
A great talent and please don't believe any bullshit you may have heard.
This is a 10 in my book, so much talent packed into one song.  Fabulous performances from fabulous players (and singers), and a fabulously well-crafted song!
The segway from John Hiatt to this was smoooooothNice one.

+1 to 9 on the strength of Mr. Sklar's bass playing, especially as I'm breaking in a new stereo and remember how good this one sounds.
Long Live RP and new hi-fi gear!!

Just saw a documentary on Native artists and that's where I learned of him. That guitar solo was recorded in one take off the top of his head. Amazing!
So sick of this song
One of my favourite all-time songs.
10.
Takes me back to the time my dad and I, before he went to work, me to school, (I was 13) sitting at the breakfast table playing gin rummy and eating Saltines, drinking Doles Pineapple juice.  Very happy times!! Nice!

My own works have been commended as being strongly vaginal. But JB's works are simply in a different ginaverse..

Jackson Browne has 75 more mature, sophisticated, under-played songs (than this overplayed FM "hit") that I wish RP would rotate.

Absolutely not true; I've never liked VM, but I own every JB album he ever did.

The Jackson 5 version of this song was my first exposure to it as a kid in the 70's. Liked it then, like it now.

Maybe I'm just tired of hearing this but this song doesn't do it for me. I like other Jackson Browne stuff but not this one. It's just me, right?
Love the congas — or is it bongos?  That slapping really works with the rocking piano and chirping lap steel.
C L A S S I C.

Pure, perfect classic.{#Meditate}
Lyrics still applicable.
I just saw an incredible 2-hour documentary on David Geffen last night. While one could argue that he (Geffen) eventually sold his soul for the almighty dollar, his early career was quite fascinating. Jackson was one of his first discoveries/signings.
Great song, great guitar playing and the bass keeps it going. I bought this when it came out and pretty well every JB album after that.

My all-time worst song: "Loving You" by Minnie Riperton. Pretty sure it can beat all comers.

Always liked "Doctor My Eyes"—reminds me of autumn high school days.

I'm right there with you on the April Wine! Man, they've got some seriously bad songs.
As for Adele, I thought her performance at the Grammys was one of the highlights.
And for the record, this song is great.
I had a dream that Jackson Browne lost a lawsuit and was forced to put a warning label on all his albums: "BUYER BEWARE. ALL SONGS BY JACKSON BROWNE ARE ACTUALLY THE SAME SONG".

It was just a dream. I really do love Jackson Browne's music, though you have to admit, he uses the same melody lines and chord progressions in most of his songs.

"Doctor My Eyes" is one of my favorite songs ever, so I'm giving it a high rating.

Wasup? Why don't y'all's comments match the overall ratings of this song? I guess it's because it's comforting to join in on the cheap shots for those of you who missed the era and the experience. You'll never know how affecting it was hearing this song blared through the minds of the people at public gatherings before the onset of disco.
Classic! In addition to a great song, I also love where the tells the doctor to say what to say! =)
This the Radio Station I hope more people watch
Give me the Jackson 5 version anyday.

Sorry Jackson, nice song and all that, but MJ and the boys do it better.

Wow!  I never knew The Jackson 5 took a swing at this one.  I had to go back & look it up for confirmation.  Per Wiki, their cover of Doctor My Eyes was a Top 10 hit in Europe, and it's on this album, back when Mike still looked like a real person...

Holy CRAP!  That version actually has some music to it!  I always thought that it was just the song that was soulless.
Why?  This song is awful.
Good lord...  what's next? Captain and Tennille?
Doctor, my ears enjoyed this song.
Really, it's not been overplayed.  I still think this is one of his best.

Best song from his best album.
As soon as this song cued up I thought "great song!" Then my second thought was "Oh no, the comments will be full of that 'this song is soooooo overplayed' "

It remains a great song, and I was only partially right about the comments. Fortunately only a couple of the I've Heard This Song Before So It Must Be Bad Police have made their way to this song's comments (so far).

I absolutely agree.  Jackson Browne has been a part of my life since I was about fourteen. I love his music (except, he almost lost me with his "Lawyers In Love" CD.)

Love the tune - this was a good era of music coming out of the 60's before disco really took off.

Back then, it was quite common to see them dangling from a hood ornament or hook on the front of a jeep or truck driving around in the desert.  They cool off pretty good at 60 to 70 mph !

There were also barrels of water strategically placed at pullovers on old US 66 going through the desert in California for those boiling over radiators.

I just love this song. The lyrics, the instruments (man, that bass is so cool!), the vocals.
Was there ever a song so plain as this?
A great song - lyric, melody and craftmanship. I don\'t give a sh*t who plays it.
