I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me
Just try to see in the dark
Just try to make it work
To feel the fear before you're here
I make the shapes come much too close
I pull my eyes out
Hold my breath
And wait until I shake...

But if I had your faith
Then I could make it safe and clean
If only I was sure
That my head on the door was a dream

I've waited hours for this
I've made myself so sick
I wish I'd stayed asleep today
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me

But if I had your face
I could make it safe and clean
If only I was sure
That my head on the door
Was a dream

Quite moving (for this reader/poster) to think that the 4-year old is now twenty. Hope you're still sharing some cool tunes and warm Spring evenings :)

It could be that they had a producer forced on them with (probably) his version of what would be a 'hit'. This may be Robert's own version.

Don't judge, just accept. Breathe, relax. Groove with the music if it happens to groove with you.
Hey Jack Johnson has managed to sound like The Cure, chapeau! (previous song)

i think that's what makes it for me.
Fan bloody tastic..
What's with the vinyl crackle?
So many negative comments? Yet, this wonderful song carries a 7.6 average!!😄😁

Opinion almost as relevant as the bad joke at the end. 44 successful years and counting...
This is a perfect of example of when RP pays attention to the flow of song transitions and I don't have to get up and skip the track or put on my playlists. Wye Oak's Spiral is a seamless transition into The Cure's Close to Me. Great job folks!

Too bad, because I love the original original song...

The horns make it, for me!

You don't think  anything about  his vocalizations are deliberate?

Ahhhhh, the 90's!
Him playing the teeth of the comb in the video, inspired.
I think this is the only remix album that I ever liked.  This one is awesome from start to finish.
These guys will forever be part of my youth! It's a shame so many cry baby millenials revived them in such a pathetic way.

Check him out live. Oh he can sing, and after all these years, amazingly well.

What's your point? He wouldn't pass on The Voice? Autotune is a good thing? Nothing experimental should ever be vocalised? It should all be numbingly inevitable and technically pure like Robert Cray going round and round a twelve bar?

It's really much simpler than that.  His point was to h8 in the comments of a band that he knows the fans of will be reading.  Simple trolling from simple minds.
Smith was a revelation in their Glastonbury set this year. Yup the old bag lady goth absolutely killed it, his wavery vocal so controlled and cutting through like it never did. And I'm not a fan per se.

Hoping the poster below manages to learn to communicate one day.
More crappy must c from the cure going to hit the next button

Whatever happened to real drummers? This otherwise fantastic song is sterilised by the beatbox, the fallback of every DJ "mixer" with no taste or talent whatsoever. It could hardly be worse if I'd given the job to my deaf-blind guinea pig.

Not sure if the remix changed the drums all that substantially, but Boris Williams plays the drums on this in the original.

At least the music's great. Ingenious saxophone improvisation.
Not the same for the vocals - unfortunately.

Perfect song for a Saturday morning.
I bought this album after seeing the video for this song(my first time hearing it) and boy was I surprized that I had purchased a remix album.
I loved everything on it! I find it tough to listen to most of the original versions anymore.

I prefer Seventeen Seconds and Faith to Porno - but yes, the first five or six were great.

I won a lip sync contest ($500!!) doing this song in High School -- and that's in 1986 dollars!
I could not tell you the drummer of the Cure...but i can tell you this song is awesome...that is all I need to enjoy this
Isn't this on the soundtrack to a Muppet movie?

Muppet with shocked out hair like Robert Smith of The Cure

Robert, is that you?

Love the original, love the mix.

Porno is by far their best...def. a mind space album

Discovering the Cure at 56. Cool and fun music Bill. Thanks for the introduction.
Great version of an amazing song.  Way more playful and perky than the original.

Hmm, ok, but this number and its descendant mixes do get played an awful lot. The guy himself was an Emo way before the term was coined, and I expect that The Cure is mandatory listening for Emos these days. 6 from the non-Emo Nottingham jury.

Actually, he was one of the "fathers" of Goth - and The Cure's music was/is considered part of the Goth canon. Emo evolved out of Goth, so you might more appropriately say he was Emo's ancestor, distantly related - a proto-Emo, perhaps?
Briljant song, terrible remix...

Those horns kick ass
Bill, Super sounds this morning... been LOVEIN' IT!  Why I love RP.
Not a fan of the Cure at all but I really like this remix.

Thank GOD for old farts who had MUSIC LESSONS.

This makes me think of Napoleon Dynamite.

I think the plethora of remixes has made me hate the Cure sooner than I otherwise might have.
Oh goody! This American Life must be on!

Why do I like The Cure? {#Think} Whatever...I do. Robert Smith is cool. {#Cool}
For me it's the whiny voice and silly legwarmer synthesizer

Not a great song to begin with, so the extended remix just dilutes it further.

tired version of a great song.
Come on all you haters...  you gotta like the horns.
There is much better Cure out there just waiting to be played.
For a moment I thought this was a a tune from a recent iPhone or iPod commercial then I realized it was The Cure.
Saw them in '08 down in Tampa...fantastic 3 hour long show...{#Dancingbanana}

Here, here. It needs to break into a chorus. The music puts an image in my head of watching a worm or snail crawl.
I'm not a big Cure fan, but I like the original much better.

7 -> 8. Don't know why, but this is growing on me (though it's that old....)
Bumbed up to a 9. Gets better ery time!
Relaxing song!
Delightful!! Both versions. The Cure overall a nine- this song a 10.
Just the best.
Good band, bored with this song though
Me likes the original. Me likes this.
This is my new favorite Cure song first because it's good, but it edges ahead of Pictures of You because it's so different and cheery. 9 maybe 10 by the time I finish the song.
