drive by my house late at night
you can see from the freeway above
no silhouette, but a light left on
burning there for love

smoke is rising from the fire
coming out my back door
i'm inside, sound asleep
cigarette on the floor
burning there for love

well i can still remember
a couple of years ago
when the smoke and flame called my name
it was a burning house of love

that rusty nail over our front door
is where i hung our tears in the rain
i threw that horseshoe into the weeds
to see what luck can bring

cause you're in your bed, i'm in mine
on either side of town
i think i might take a ride
and burn your love house down
like a burning house of love

That album was more exciting than the concert. Was still a good show, but Tony Gilkyson instead of Billy Zoom. Musically just fine (better, maybe), but Billy was more fun on stage.

LOL, Billy moves on stage less than John Entwistle but he does smile more. LOL

Might be because I'm cooking, but I initially heard 'burning casserole'. Knowing Bill's psychic powers, I double checked my pan.
Strange tune, cow-boy punk to my ears, not bad.
Not their best tune! They have done a lot of better tunes!
That was awful

An instrumental version of this would make a perfect 80s training montage soundtrack.

X has a brand new album that just came out - Alphabetland

Getting rave reviews.
Thanks Bill!  Love me some X!

I'm getting a Smithereens kind-of-vibe from this track.

I'm pretty sure the negative reaction is more to this particular song, not the group.  To me this tune is pretty cornball and is not a good representation of most of their work.
More high energy to kick start my day. I’m on the verge of miss behaving. Spin spin twirl dip....
A little 80's cheese is good for you every now & then. I like...7

Agreed - Billy Zoom is one of a kind and one of the greatest. I do prefer the more raw live version of this song tho.
Heard X blasting from the car stereo of the purple VW in the premier episode of the latest True Detective show.
I love this song and most X songs.  Don't understand the comments.  Oh, well, maybe I'm not a cool kid.

Flashback...Have not heard this in a long time!
X are one of my all-time favorite bands - tho by the time they did this I feel they were giving into the label's demands to produce more "radio friendly" material.

There are two terrific live versions of this, one on "Live at the Whisky" and an neat acoustic version on "Unclogged".
I'm appalled to hear this mediochre uninspiring stuff on this great station. I can only guess that Bill thought of a connection with the previous song (Garbage) .
I hope none of the people I've turned on to RP were listening.... {#No}
This is terrible!

I've always liked this one, but I have uploaded "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts," it's been added, but has yet to play.  That's another very strong X song.
So, that was an unpleasantly jarring shift in the playlist.
I saw these guys on the tour for this album, at a little club in Cincinnati called "Bogart's". They rocked like no-tomorrow, and I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. I saw John, Exene, D.J., along with Dave Alvin and Jonny Ray Bartel (as The Knitters) at HSB 7 last fall. They've still got it!

Sounds like something an amateur garage band would come up with in about 1984. Not impressed.
This is NOT representative of peak-of-their-powers X. Not a bit. The overproduction on this is disheartening; it would've been right at home on a Poison album. The fact that this turd wasn't flushed for good reminds me that I need to upload more earlier era X tunes. Haven't been lucky thus far... I even tried the live, spare version of this track, and it was sent to File 13.

Shitty hard rock production indeed, but there is a worthy song beneath it all. John's and Exene's voices also cut through the muck rather well.
Not too impressive.
Who chose this song? For fecks sake...

X does BOC? I like it --- a total breath of fresh air.
Exene and Dave Alvin are in a band together called The Knitters. Country punk, really strange.
I was wondering what .38 Special was up to.
I don't really want to know anything about what's coming out his back door.

Thise is timeless........crap! Sorry! :P
OMG! All this time I thought Bill was spinning the stripped down version of this song found on the "Beyond & Back" collection. I saw it on the playlist but never heard it! This really does sound like a big hair band cheesefest. Damn. This is not the X I know and love. Now I know why I have put off buying this particular album. I have to upload the other version; it sounds nothing like this, rather more like X's side band, The Knitters.
Terrrrrrible. :P
Not for me, except for the solo guitar sound.
The worst crap I have heard on RP.
WOW! X! Havent heard from them since my old L.A. Days! The greatest ROCK band L.A. ever produced. More Please! Excene! DJ Bonebreak, John Doe, Billy Zoom and occasionaly Dave Alvin! Could this all be on tape? Do I really care?
It is amazing to hear X on air anywhere, but please don't play anything from this album, or Hey Zeus for that matter. See How We Are is acceptable. Even X doesn't play anything in concert that's not off of their first four albums...
please stop.

I am afraid I have to agree! I was happily listening when this came on. I had to find out who it was to see who could possibly be so cliche! I was in a band a long time ago and we actually opened for these guys. It was a big deal. But then they were a big deal LA punk band. What happened?

I dunno, I kinda like it. It's interesting in a sort of atavistic "Nazareth" sorta way. "I give it an 88 Dick, It's got a beat, you can dance to it" - generic teenager on American Bandstand -

Sounds like it should be on the soundtrack to some cheesy 80s movie.

Incredible stuff. Now maybe RP will reconsider playing X's version of Soul Kitchen???
I completely agree. I think X is one of the most underrated bands of the 80s; the Doe-Exene harmonies/disharmonies are spectacular. And the guitars! dairyman wrote:

I wholeheartedly agree - that one should have been a monster hit when it came out, with great lyrics by ex-Blaster Dave Alvin. It's a crime that radio ignored it when it was out in 1987. Radioparadise must play it!
This sounds like something a 13 year old would write thinking they were being deep and soul-wrentching. It's also cliche. Trash it.
OMG, did I just flashback to some bad 80's dico-pop-rock station? All I can envision are crimped hair girls who all look like 'material Madonna' and the guys not looking much different. Ughh.
Classic!! Thanks!
more X! White Girl, Blue Spark, Poor Girl, Delta 88, etc.
Nice to hear X anytime - one of the underrated bands of their time.

I have this on vinyl LP, but I don\'t have my turntable connected to anything anymore - so this was quite a treat. Interestingly though, I knew an X purist for whom this vintage of X was not the real thing ....

Nothing better the John Doe and Exene. Play more X, or even just some John Doe Thing.
I see the playlist, but did not hear it! Nevertheless, any Exene is a welcome addition :D
