(Ahhhhhh, ahhh)

So, you know how people are
When it's all gone much too far
The way their minds are made
Still, there's something you should know
That I could not let show
That fear of letting go

And in this in moment, I need to be needed
With this darkness all around me
I like to be liked
In this emptiness and fear I want to be wanted
'Cos I love to be loved
I love to be loved
I love to be loved
Yes I love to be loved

I cry the way the babies cry
The way they can't deny
The way they feel

Words, they climb all over you,
'Til they uncover you
From where you hide

And in this moment, I need to be needed
When my self-esteem is sinking,
I like to be liked
In this emptiness and fear,
I wanna be wanted
'Cos I love to be loved,
I love to be loved
I love to be loved,
Oh I love to be loved

This old familiar craving
I've been here before
This way of behaving
Don't know who the hell I'm saving any more
Let it pass let it go let it leave
From the deepest place I grieve
This time I believe

And I let go,
And I let go
I can't let go of it
Though it takes all the strength in me
And all the world can see
I'm losing such a central part of me
I can't let go of it

You know I mean it
You know that I mean it
I recognize how much I've lost
But I cannot face the cost

'Cos I love to be loved
Yes I love to be loved
I love to be loved
Yes I love to be loved
I love to be loved
Yes I love to be loved
I love to be loved
I love to be loved
I love to be loved

Yes I love to be loved

Peter Gabriel on a bad day is better than most at their best.
A Prog master...
A rock master...
A pop master...
A modern music master.

I would like less U2, but I don't want anyone to take any notice of my opinion.

I heartily agree with the auto-skip idea (though I happen to like PG).  This would have two nice effects - listeners wouldn´t be bothered by music that they dislike enough to rate low, and there would be so much less whining/whinging about songs, since (only) the affected listeners wouldn´t hear them.  How about it Bill?  Should be an easy task...
Just want to say... If RP was down to me, it would be the poorer because of it!! There is such a VAST mix of music here and I'm not sure I'm 'open' enough to let all of it happen!!!

Just let Bill and Rebecca spin the discs (or file-stream the Flacs) and enjoy!

I've got so much new (to me) music off RP that it is AWESOME!!! Much of the material comes from the listeners anyway - so it's kind-of democratic...
I think we all could use more therapy in this world…
not my favorite Gabriel album...too much like reading someone's therapy notes...

This is a great comment. something I probably would have come up with(of the sort) had I not been in the process of an unwanted divorce when this came out...
Thanks for the visual humor and laughs...

RP is the epitome of One Man, One Vote.
Bill is the one man. He casts the one vote.

(I actually do not know how much Bill and Rebecca share the programming duties, but I assume they have worked out an equitable division of responsibilities, and it is overall none of my business).

This song feels like a warm, musical bear hug.  So good.

Mine would include U2, Tracey Chapman, Norah Jones, Death Cab For Cutie, Dire Straits and Depeche Mode.  Oh, and Patti Smith.

Once those lyrics get in your head, they stay.

I happen to really like PG (although IMO this isn't one of his strongest songs), but I would love to see that feature as well. So tired of U2 and Tori. But <shrug> RP is what it is. PSD FTW.
I feel it Pete... call Oz, find me now!!!!

While PG's "SO" album seems to be most widely embraced, this "US" album is my all time favorite. If you can find the time, listen to the WHOLE album end to end. It's quite a story diving deep into psychology, emotion, growing and evolving. It's Gabriel's most profound and personal album.
Peter Gabriel is one of those computer nerds that for some reason he finds himself sexy and irresistible. :)
Please more PG. Genesis was nothing after him. Its a 9 :)
This whole album should be uploaded.

This song and album made such a significant impression on me back in the early 1990s.  And I still love it.
I understand that RP is not a democracy and that is all for the better. But if I could vote I would cast my ballot for less Peter Gabriel.

Tapped in deep for this one.  Excellent song.
Anyone who finds Peter Gabriel monotonic is deaf and a bit dim to boot!

Would be nice to hear an acoustic version of this song.

80's-90's arrangement interferes with appreciation of who song...

Honestly, I think you need to look up monotone in the dictionary. I hear many different tones, and octaves too.

But what can ya say, if you don't like it ya don't like it. But try not to call a rainbow black and white.

It is funny, interesting, amazing, to hear all these stories about how we go through difficult times with some music... I guess that is one of the magic things about music. I do have also music that, at some stage, help me through difficult times, and it is different for different ocassions. ... there is some kind of music for everybody that really connects with the soul and, somehow, makes you feel better (or at least not so bad),.. is it the same for everybody?

PG is in the top 5 of greatest artists in my book. Outstanding person too, with WOMAD and such
Outstanding song - so well crafted.

Beautifully plodding.

Passionately droning.

Zealously monotone.
I understand Pete, but I think you need to set this one free. Please make it end.
Too much Peter Gabriel. I mean seriously.

Nope, black321 has it right.  "Us" was released in 1992.  "OVO" came out in 2000.

That said, this isn't the '92 version.  Allmusic.com says the track appeared twice more: in '94 as a B-side to Lovetown and in '97 on a Huckleberry House 30th Anniversary disc.  I don't know which one wins the prize, but I'd bet this version is one of those.

. . . chase this with Deep Forest - sounds similar

This is NOT the album version of this song.  Anyone know where it's from?  I think I like the original better, but it may just be what I'm used to after hearing it hundreds of times.  This album, along with the "Telephone" live double disc, was road trip music for years.

The only reason this insipid song is getting airplay is because Peter Gabriel's name is attached to it.  If anyone else had written/performed this song, it would never get a second glance.

Words, they climb all over you

Every single day. Yeah, baby. Go Peter.
Everything that I've heard off of this disc sounds the same to me. Now, before rolling your eyes and chastising me for failing to recognize genius, be aware that I have a long history listening to Peter. From Foxtrot through the Lamb to So, I've loved listening to Peter (and the rest of Genesis, yes). Everything that I've heard from him in the last, wow, twenty years just sounds to me like more Birdy.

tiggers wrote:

Well, I disagree. The problem is most people don't actually HAVE subwoofers. They have woofers masquerading as subwoofers. Subwoofers act below the range of a traditional woofer... below, say, 50hz or so. They provide the frequencies that are otherwise not heard. Here's an example of a true subwoofer: (click here) What people call 'subwoofers" in satellite/subwoofer speakers are just plain woofers. PLUS... people say they want "boom" when it comes to audio, and "boom" sounds like crap. Those silly car speakers you hear with the license plate rattling all over the place are "bandpass" woofers, which produce ONE NOTE bass... they are loud, but they are tuned to a specific frequency. Listen close, you'll hear lots of bass but only at a single narrow range of frequencies. If the bass always has the same "note" it's bandpass. It sounds like crap to anyone with good ears. The same thing with the little Bose "subwoofers." So anyway, subwoofers aren't evil. People who misuse subwoofers are! :)

Wow, a PG song I kind of like. That's very rare for me. But I'm getting better.
PG is in my personal top 5. Easy. Probably top 2 if I were to think about it a little more. One of the great successes in my musical life is to introduce my wife to PG and have her love the music as much as I do.
