God knows how I love you
Like a user needs a drug
And I'll never be free of you
You are poison in my blood

I tried to swim that river
And get to higher ground
I been three times under
The next one'll see me drown

But I don't want to talk about it now
I don't want to talk about it now
I don't want to talk about it now
I wanna go down

God knows why you don't want me
No one would do the things I do
But to my grave it's gonna haunt me
How I got down on my knees for you

You are my obsession
And the reason that I live
You already got my soul
There's nothin' left to give

But I don't want to talk about it now
I don't want to talk about it now
I don't want to talk about it now
I wanna go down

The devil is deep water baby
And I'm in way over my head
But I'd be drawn and quartered
If I could keep you in my bed

I can't break this spell
I know the trouble that I'm in
But if I got out of the mouth of hell
I'd walk right back again

But I don't want to talk about it now
I don't want to talk about it now
I don't want to talk about it now
I wanna go down...

I disagree.  The lyrics read like an unhealthy obsession such as de ClĂ©rambault's Syndrome.

I went to the wiki and it's a pretty random fun fact.  The bassist is actually Jill Cunniff from Luscious Jackson.  I'm a fan of LJ, especially the album that they'd cut w/ Daniel Lanois.  I hadn't heard any outside work she'd performed, so now I'll have to keep my ears out!

The cut that made me buy this CD when it came out. Great album.

The albums that she released with Nonesuch were such a change in direction for her. Nonesuch was a great label that gave artists a lot of creative freedom.
Back when most Alt-Rock had the sampled-boomin-drum-breakbeat a-la Butch Vig rhythm section... Good times

Oh Emmylou...I've loved you for so long!  What warm, lovely vocals
8 to 9 with this listen. Great song from a wonderful artist.

No need to be rude. Liz Ks not alone in her less than thrilled take on the song. It is possible to love an artist and their work but not love everything they've done.
The 1st time I heard Emmy Lou in '74 approx. I immediately went out and bought the Elite Hotel album.  Loved her ever since.  We went to see Emmy Lou, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin & Buddy Miller in an acoustic show at Ravinia (Chicago area) a few years ago.  It was a surprisingly sparse attendance but what a wonderful show!
Hot Nashville babe.
Thank you Bill for bringing this song to my attention.... love it.
{#Devil_pimp}so zesty !

Imagine if Emmylou had struck up an acquaintance with you two. Somebody should make a movie...Clooney and Pitt? Seth Rogen and Jason Siegel?

Your story reminds of my former pottery teacher who'd owned her own (chaotic) studio for years. Jill's a very nice woman but doesn't really remember names, so she calls many of students "weirdo" as an affectionate catch-all. One student in particular caught Jill's eye years ago. "God, she sure was pretty, weirdos..." (Jill leaned that way). The other students had to tell Jill that the dreamboat was Judy Collins.
I don't want to like ElH's voice, but it seems I do anyway. Wrecking Ball is a fine piece of work, but the vocal timbre on this piece appeals to me more.
Her voice is amazing. She's so expressive. I wish I enjoyed listening to her.
Weird--I've already heard this song once today, on WXRT in Chi.

I'm a lifelong Emmylou fan.  I ended up buying nearly all of her albums.  I love the way she sings — and how her style is never boring for me.  I'm giving her a 10 on this altho it's not the best song on the CD.  After my dad died, I listened to "Bang the Drum Slowly" over and over...  {#Notworthy}

   Song : "This is us"
  {#High-five}

Sammy Ylanas of the BoDeans confessed onstage that he had a crush on Emmylou Harris, and wrote the song, "She's Waiting For Me Somewhere" for her. Just a little trivia there...

Emmylou has forgotten more about music than most artists have ever learned. She's rather iconic. Granted, she's an acquired taste for some people who adamantly repudiate country music (yup, I was one of those people, once upon a time...) but her history speaks for itself. She's amazing. (P.S. - I love "Wrecking Ball"!)

GODLIKE
{#Heartkiss} A goodess.  Saw her live awhile back - just an awesome show.  {#Notworthy}
I was lucky enough to see Emmylou at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz after Wrecking Ball.
She put on a Concert acoustic guitar that was almost as big as she was.

And she is HUGE!

That would be your opinion , probably shared by many , which you are certainly entitled to . I don`t have a problem with folks enjoying her music .
But we don`t need to resort to name calling because I , too , am entitled to my opinion .

It certainly can`t be because of her singing abilities . She always reminds me of some singer/songwriter you might hear at a local coffee shop , on open-mike night , who smells of Patchouli , and tries way too hard because she has to compensate for her limited abilities .

I'm a huge fan of Dylan and Young, as well as Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and other "vocally-challenged" artists. I have a lot of respect for Emmylou; she seems like a great person, but I have to say I simply don't like her voice.

Great music sets today RP, it's been a cloudy day in southern Arizona, and your more mellow than lately sets have been marvelously soothing for my spirit and soul. Thank you. A little Afro Celts about now wouldn't be bad

This would give a chance to the "never played" songs in the library to "get noticed" too and maybe lessen the complaining about the lack of mix on RP. Yeah, maybe people will find something else to complain about (they couldn't hear your "random" voice telling us what just played now), but why not give this experiment a try, for a little while anyway?
All this in response to something that was pretty obviously sarcasm. C'est la vie.

In Bill's defense, it's really great when his playlist matches my mood, like a home run. Of course you can have too much of a good thing, and that's when Bill changes to something else. In my opinion a DJ who knows how to choose the right songs can really enhance your enjoyment of the music. Thanks Bill NewHorizons wrote:

When Emmylou does moody, smokey, dark - I could fall into her voice - liquid honey.
Red Dirt Girl was the CD that sort of dragged me into the Emmylou camp, so I'm a newbie. We have lots of earlier stuff, and I like it all, but it's always refreshing to have an artist show some new moves. I saw her live just after that CD came out, and the crowd didn't quite know what to think of the new stuff. I thought it sounded fantastic.
Definitely certain sets are repeated, which you can tell from seeing previous comments. Hey, there's one DJ, and you have to expect that Bill occasionally needs to go grocery shopping or something, so he pops in previously-played playlists, which is what I'm guessing.

Nice feel and lyrics. Harris's voice is daunting and beautiful at the same time. How does she do that? Reminds me a little bit of Robert Plant's music. Anyone felt the same?
