Last time she jumped out the window
Well, she only turned and smiled
You might think she would say something
But you'd have to wait a while

Well, the lady don't mind
No, no, no, the lady don't mind
She just turns her head and disappears
And I kinda like that style

Little boat floats on the river
It's drifting through a haze
She floats by whenever she wants to
Well, there she goes again

Well, it's no trouble at all
No, no, no trouble at all
Well, what she does is all right with me
And I kinda like that style

Come on, come on, I go up and down
I like this curious feeling
I know, I see, It's like make-believe
Cover your ears so you can hear what I'm saying
I'm not lost, but I don't know where I am
I got a question
All right, all right, this is what we like
Who knows, who knows what I'm thinking?

She says love is not what she's after
But everybody knows
Each time she looks in the mirror
Well, she lets her feelings show

Well, the lady don't mind
No, no, no, the lady don't mind
She just turns around and disappears
And I kinda like that style

Uh-oh, uh-oh, here we go again
I don't know, Don't know what I'm sayin'
Hey man, hey man, I sure don't feel the same.
She likes to say what she's feeling
Hey, did I get a big surprise?
I know you think so
Come on, come on, she says anything
Who knows, who knows what she's thinking?

Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh
Uh-oh, uh-oh

13 years, 2300 ratings later, still 7.4

never heard this song by the heads, so i really don’t know what you’re talking about.

I'm sorry fans and I'm absolutely not disputing the quality of TH or David Byrne, but i.m.o. both are overplayed...
byrne this garbage!!
A great song evokes immediate memories. This takes me back to my time on the south shore of Montreal, growing up fed up of the English/French Canadian tension that erupted every few years. I was in college headed to university (two separate things) and wanting to get the hell out of Quebec, but with no real pressure to do much of anything other than finish school. I lived with my parents, was free to do whatever I wanted thanks to two older brothers paving the way (thanks!!!) and left to blast music during the day whole my parents worked. This was one of my go-to albums for years and years and as much as back then I wanted out, in retrospect, those years would end up being among the best of my life. I wish I could go back and do it all again. Thanks for stirring all that up.
The second best song on the album!

(Television Man takes first.)

Talking Heads often initially frustrated many listeners with each new release. There was no way to predict them, except to be certain that whatever they did could and should be expected to be wildly different and wonderfully weird. For appreciative fans, given time, everything they did would glow for us with its own unique quantum magic. Truly, one of the boldest and most experimental bands ever! I love that RP keeps their genius in proper state of eternal celebration.

Beautifully stated. A lot of TH fans lamented that they never got back together, but I'm perfectly fine with what they left us during their glorious run.

You're welcome.  ;)

This is my exact story with Talking Heads, and then was turned on to David Byrne's solo work.  Enjoy almost everything that has his name on it.

I think the trouble was we were hearing Reggae, Roxie Music, the Police, whatever and Talking Heads didn't fit in with that vibe. You put things in perspective when you hear them again out of the blue.

She might not mind, but I sure as heck do.

Have you read his book "How Music Works"? It's a good read on TH, the music industry, and music in general.
I remember when this album came out and not liking it quite as much as their previous albums.  However, so many years later, I now put it among my faves from TH.  The songs are a little more catchy, particularly when you don't hear them very often.
Gives me energy ! Thanks

GREAT!
I don't know how or why but this band's music does something directly to my brain synapses. It's all good. Way good.
It's killing me (softly) that I had to turn down the opportunity to see him with a friend in "American Utopia" on Broadway, but I had neither the time nor the money for orchestra seats.
This album was my introduction to the Talking Heads back in the day, with Stop Making Sense as its companion.  I quickly became my school's "official" Talking Heads freak.

This song and Television Man still make me stop and listen.
We are still good friends...and I'm trying to be...listening to everything.
Literally a only a 2-chord song, but absolutely brilliant!

It helps that this and Brothers In Arms were topping the charts at the same time.  They dominated in '85.

Well, three art students.  Jerry Harrison was an architecture student (and played with The Modern Lovers) in Boston several years before he joined the Talking Heads.
Huge TH and DB fan, seen the band 3 times at SPAC.  Superb shows, all of them.  I still am hoping for a reunion, if they can get past their personalities and pride.
Oh my, I absolutely adore that song. <3

Sorry, there's a special place in hell for this album. The edgy, New Wave TH and the African Eno TH were gone at this point and they were fairly boring.

Ugh. I can tolerate TH more than I can tolerate solo DB. So, I'll take it.
So far removed from their greatness. Difficult to listen to.
Mannered, not very edgy, and somewhat needy.

He's forgotten his own admonition: "I don't have to prove / that I am creative."
I have a special place in my heart for this record.
TH/DB have had a disproportionate run here on RP for many years.

Insta-, as usual.

That pretty much sums up the world-view of twenty somethings in the early 80's in NYC. Basically how things turned out too.

Damn if this isn't one of Bill/Rebecca's finest sequences:

Other Lives - For 12
Alt-J - Bloodflood
Woodkid - I Love You
Eels - Woman Driving, Man Sleeping
Talking Heads - The Lady Don't Mind

Incredible blend of old/new groove-based experimental alternative.

And this is why I never can listen to Pandora/iTunes Radio or any other computer generated radio station for more than 20 minutes...

Agreed.

"Cause"? I'm not aware of any anti-Byrne campaigns and wouldn't join one if there were one. Just letting off steam, man, just like the rest of the stiffs on this board. Cred to Byrne for being innovative, and a great songwriter, but his voice always provokes a leap to the mute button. The chatterati love him to bits, I know, so maybe it's my loss.

Not hating the TH, just a bit meh. ;)
I agree that THeads are an acquired sound, but as time goes on David Byrne's musical genius becomes clearer.  He is one of the important people in music.  My teen years were spent listening to Stop Making Sense, really loud- phenomenal.  Anyone who has not seen the amazing concert movie, must!!
