Just read about his death 2023 March 03. I've been hearing him for years on other people's albums and didn't know it. So now I'm intentionally seeking his music. This great slide piece made me go to the screen to see who it was and lo and behold it's him - David Lindley !

Took everyone I know to see El Rayo X in SanJan back in'85: folks, gf, bros, all my buds.
Opening act was some BobDylan wannabe - droning lyrics and no accompaniment - my folks we're getting up to leave. I bot them another drink and told them to sit tight.
Mr Dave walks out and complements the guy, says we need to keep that groove going - then hammers right into Twist&Shout.
Everyone flew to their feet and the place just went into obit.
Definitely one of the best events in my life. Man, are we lucky or what.

I love the real human music of people sitting in back yard of on front porch jamming with women dancing in barefeet...
This song has that feeling... Barn, garage, yard or rolled back carpet with cornmeal spread... Big women dancing, skinny men dancing and everyone having fun...
Once upon a time people made their own music and didn't use anything electric...
Watching big women, black, Hawaiian, white, or whatever...Just human... They make the afternoon/evening fun...
Plus they are giving evidence that they are happy, healthy and not sad or depressed...

David Lindley is one of the most under-rated, over-talented instrumentalists ever. I think he, Lindsey Buckingham, and Leo Kottke are three of my favorite eclectic guitarists.
Will be touring with Jackson Browne for the first time in 4 years, this summer!

We're not worthy!I wholeheartedly agree about his live shows - he\'s always got the best musicians and Lindley is definitely one unique character. I carried out the rider on his contract for a gig he did many, many moons ago. It was a very, very cold night in a very, very lonely prairie town. They were great guys, if a little freaked out by -30 windchills. I remember one poignant conversation they had at dinner - they were deriding the state of music journalism - \'those guys don\'t know what they\'re talking about\', one said. Lindley\'s comment was that they (music mags) all hire students with no music experience. Of course at the time I was writing a music column for the student paper - that conversation really struck a chord. I haven\'t written any music stuff since. Thanks for the reality check David.
