Well, I'm the crawlin' king snake
And I rule my den
I'm the crawlin' king snake
And I rule my den
Yeah, don't mess 'round with my mate
Gonna use her for myself
Caught me crawlin', baby, window
Grass is very high
Keep on crawlin' till the day I die
Crawlin' king snake and I rule my den
You better give me what I want
Gonna crawl no more

Caught me crawlin', baby, crawlin' 'round your door
See anything I want
I'm gonna crawl on your floor, let's crawl
And I rule my den
Come on, give me what I want
Ain't gonna crawl no more

Alright, crawl a while

Come on crawl
Come on crawl
You don't [Incomprehensible] on your hands and knees, baby
Crawl all over me
Just like a spider on the wall, oh
We gon' crawl, one more

Well I'm the crawlin' king snake
And I rule my den
Call me the crawlin' king snake
And I rule my den
Yeah, don't mess 'round with my mate
Gonna use her for myself

Love it! John Lee Hooker was as wild and bold as he dared to be...blew a lot of people's minds! Perfectly apropos that Mr. Mojo and The Doors did such a killer cover of this on their bluesy masterpiece, LA Woman...

John Lee was an original and still the best! Second best is Elvin Bishop's version, with some truly snaky guitar.
Doesn't get much better than this.
+1, wtf was I thinking with a silly 8...it's a 9 at least...LLRP!!
Some old slide Bonnie Raitt after this would be nice

And, as good today, as it ever was! Actually, better as, true real music lovers can still appreciate great talent!! Long live RP!! RIP, Sir.
That was obviously sarcasm. Wasn't it?   Sloggydog wrote:

Ah.....KICK ASS.....yes that covers it.
I wonder what this is about? Hmmmm
I just love all this ole blues.
You can hear the freshness of his voice at the time {#Cheers}
That was a damn fine segue.
My favorite JLH. Just him and his guitar. Like you're in the room with him.

I'm happy to be here sharing these fabulous sounds with you beautiful people, Thank you!  : )
About 25-30 years ago, there was a local band in Cincinnati (and a rather good one at that) called "Steve Tracy & the Crawling Kingsnakes."  Always loved that name.  Now I know where it came from.

This set is a sample of the reason why I listen to RP:

John Lee Hooker - Crawlin' Kingsnake
J.J. Cale - After Midnight
Subdudes - Late At Night
The Smithereens - Blood And Roses
Do you need some other definition of "eclectic"??

That is indeed an egg-zelent set.
Oh man - this just got an instant 10.

This is great, I really like his songs from the early years.

Check out cousin Earl Hooker's blues, you'd never guess the two were related. Earl Hooker played like the devil (way before Hendrix), before dying prematurely from tuberculosis in 1970. What a massive loss of talent. Go watch a blistering performance here:

Thanks, that's superb. No histrionics, no over the top hair, no posing, just blistering guitar.

God-Damn!  Have to wonder what this would have sounded like on first listen in 1948!{#Notworthy}
Jim Morrison *wished* to be this cool...

1948?

I never could listen to JLH for a long stretch, but I just love the occasional track.  On no other radio station would this make it into the mix! Thanks Bill and Becca!

Played for 70 years and didn't made a single chord change! :D You have to respect that...
