I once met a man with a sense of adventure
He was dressed to thrill, wherever he went
He said: Let's make love on a mountain top
Under the stars on a big hard rock
I said: In these shoes?
I don't think so
I said: Honey, let's do it here

So I'm sitting at a bar in Guadalajara
In walks a guy with a faraway look in his eyes
He said: I've got a poweful horse outside
Climb on the back, I'll take you for a ride
I know a little place, we can get there for the break of day
I said: In these shoes?
No way, Jose
I said: Honey, let's stay right here

No le gusta caminar No puede montar a caballo
''(She doesn't like to walk, she can't ride a horse)''
Como se puede bailar - es un escandolo
''(How she can dance - it's outrageous!)''

Then I met an Englishman
Oh, he said...
Won't you walk up and down my spine
It makes me feel strangely alive
I said: In these shoes?
I doubt you'd survive
I said: Honey, let's do it!

Let's stay right here

No le gusta caminar No puede montar a caballo
''(She doesn't like to walk, she can't ride a horse)''
Como se puede bailar - es un escandolo
''(How she can dance - it's outrageous!)''

Great song. Tragic that her life was cut short by some asshat.
I cannot find this version anywhere!! Only in English. Does anyone know where to find?
Kirsty, look after Shane up there..
Kirsty MacColl is a talent lost too soon in a tragic way. Love her work. thanks for reminding us how great she sounds
Any song with the line '"I've got a powerful horse outside" gets my vote.
Good stuff RP. Haven’t heard Kirsty for a while.
I have this at a 9 and thinking about a 10 … I forgot about this song until it comes up again … So much fun.
Just realised that this has a Caro Emerald ring to it. Never noticed before.
Such a shame that her life was cut short the way it was, horrendous 😢.

Loved her music - think of her every Christmas when the Pogues are played.  ❤️
Listening to this song makes me so happy! Lots of great memories!

Loving those horns,  loving the languages, loving the swhishing beat. Love you Kristy!
KEWL!!!! I have not heard this in a long time, thanks for this funky lil number.
I'd dance, but in these shoes??

Still chair dancing.

just looked it up It was a song by a Porto Rican American Jazz Artist that goes by the name of  Willie Bobo the tracks name is Spanish grease.
Guajira is a very common Cuban term so it may have been taken from something else though

Yep and from the same family as Ewan ("The 1st time ever I saw your face" "Dirty old town" fame)
I'm sure it was not intentional, but her vocal style reminds me of   Patricia Jean Donahue on this one. Like it!
Great horn!!

Kirsty has some brilliant songs and she is able to switch between sharply observed social commentary to comedy, effortlessly. If you like this try the album

Maybe, I'm not sure, the two latter lines are meant as one: How it is possible to dance, remains a scandal. Almost sounds like standard salsa lyrics, if such do actually exist. Don't ask me for possible second meanings, please.

What really makes it for me, is the languish way she moans No way, José!

Thanks for translating and posting! Makes me like this sultry/goofy song even more: 8 -> 9. Must check out her other stuff...haven't caught Bill playing the four other KM songs in the RP catalog.
What a fun song.  And what a sad tragic story about the artist's untimely passing !

Sad note to a fun song but she died as a true hero.  Most musician / artist tragedies are much more selfish....

As the group was surfacing from a dive, a speeding powerboat entered the restricted area. MacColl saw the boat coming before her sons did; Louis was not in the boat's path, but Jamie was. She was able to push him out of the way (he sustained minor head and rib injuries) but in doing so, she was hit by the boat and killed instantly.

I like to think of myself as a free spirited globe trotter type; But Kirsty's story often comes back to me when I'm tempted to throw caution to the wind and just go for it. That didn't stop some guy in a sailboat from running over me doing the backstroke in southern Brasil. (No major damage) The lesson ? .....  Perhaps "Always, wear the correct footware" or When your not in your element,Remember Your not in your element.

Indeed.  I start enjoying this song and then remember what happened to her, and it makes me pause.  So sad.

Just Fun-!

Possibly her best...certainly her most fun-beach-Carribean song...

Thanks
this song is so amazing. I never heard it before, but it is so funny. It kind of reminds me of that old Shania Twain song, but oh so much better. Thank you DJ for playing this!

My kids (three high schoolers) love this song.  Glad they have the same tastes as their dad!

Funny I heard it as,
doesn't walk... doesn't ride... doesn't dance (how's she going to dance) it's a scandal

I like it either way

As an old joke goes: Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, you're a mile away, and you have his shoes. :-D

I feckin' love this song, and never tire of it. The world is a poorer place without Kirsty McColl, right enough. A rare 10 from the grinning Nottingham jury.
To all the haters out there who dissed this song — can't really say until you've walked a mile in someone else's Jimmy Choo's — right?  I like this song!
A  short skirt, a looong jacket and..........these shoes.
I remember a beautiful vacation in Mexico: Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Paxquero, Morelia, Tlaque Paque..
The novelty of this song has run its course.

Bill, LOVE this song, BUT......there are many other GREAT cuts on this album... would love to hear RP play something else from this, like maybe Celestine...??  Or, how about Nao Esperando, or Alegria going into Us Amazonians!!! Thanks!!  GREAT ALBUM!!!  Glad you have introduced RP listeners to Kirsty!!  We have loved her for almost 10 years now!!

Thank the goddesses I'm not dead - I don't have a chair, but I did dance... And the lyrics I provided are SO incorrect, so if someone can find a semi-literate person who  provides lyrics, and if that someone would post them here, I'd be pretty damned happy in life.

First heard this song in the movie, "Kinky Boots."  Love it.
Such a great song!  Makes me have a dance party in my living room every time I hear it.

Love this song but why not give some of her early stuff a swing. Like for example her sappily titled first hit single; "There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis" or the Billy Bragg song "A New England" or even "Don't come the cowboy with me Sonny Jim"
