I agree! Love Habib Koite and his band.  Actually got to see him at a small venue in Lake Tahoe. An amazing experience.

Good tune. I never heard of him before. Thanx RP!
I'm happy to hear they have Y.M.C.A's in Africa as well. I'm glad he wrote an original and did not do a 'Village People' cover, that may not have translated well?

Yes, I am there, in my mind, and as you said, "Everybody is friendly". Amazing with all the things that happen, bad things in Africa, that all of the people from Congo, Kenya, Ghana, Sierra Leone and many other countries that I have met living in the USA are such wonderfully friendly people. My brief encounters and associations never fail to inspire me to be happier myself and especially friendly to everyone I meet.

It's a pretty simple song, but I'm really digging the guitar.  A few beers in me and it really got my feet moving.
Its OK but there is nothing to this to make it stand out and shine.
He's actually coming to Toronto on February 14, you have to check him out! You can get tickets at Soundscapes Music or here https://goo.gl/v25NtX

Caught them at the NOLA Jazz and Heritage Fest a few years back. Anybody know what that might be?

Habib Koite - "Wassiye" Live:

featuring "Wassiye" from the Putumayo World Music Africa compilation.

I have always understood that the music of African ethnicity, or any other continent, should not be understood or used only to serve as a "tab" of a musical sequence. It is to be lived and experienced as a musical style with greater relevance. No reservations or prejudices.
Otherwise, it's like visiting the zoo at the weekend, to see rare birds.
Habib Koite is one of the examples (there are many more*) of the extraordinary quality of this musician and singer came from Mali, ability to improvise, high sense of the combination of rhythm, capable of competing with the best music that is produced in Europe, UK and the US.
By the way, a word of congratulations to the RP Team, to include regular in their programming music of African ethnicity, and beyond, (not so much as I wanted, but ....) promoting the quality of music coming from around the world, and waking up with some minds addicted to urban music and electronics.

It's because of tunes like this that I am a proud supporter of RP! Habib's music always makes me smile. A real cherub he is, and his concerts are unparalleled. Great for the family, not too loud and dancing to the side for the little ones. If he's playing anywhere w/in a two hour drive, I would go in a heartbeat.

Unlike the God-awful Amadou & Mariam, this one has a better feel and "soul" to it. Very likeable, even with the performance errors. Maybe it was recorded live, and I didn't pay attention.
