''A one two, a one two, a one two''

Take me down, six underground
The ground beneath your feet ''(A one two, a one two, a one two)''
Laid out low, not meant to go
Nowhere a way to meet ''(A one two, a one two, a one two)''
I've got a head full of drought, down here
So far off losing out, 'round here

Overground, watch this space
I'm open to falling from grace

''A one two, a one two, a one two''

Calm me down, bring it 'round
Too way high off your street ''(A one two, a one two, a one two)''
I can see like nothing else
In me you're better than I wannabe ''(A one two, a one two, a one two)''
Don't think 'cos I understand I care
Don't think 'cos I'm talking we're friends

Overground, watch this space
I'm open to falling from grace

Talk me down, safe and sound
Too strung up to sleep ''(A one two, a one two, a one two)''
Wear me out, scream and shout
Swear my time's never cheap ''(A one two, a one two, a one two)''
I fake my life like I've lived too much
I take whatever you're given, not enough

Overground, watch this space
I'm open...

I fake my life like I've lived too much
I take whatever you're given, not enough
Overground, watch this space
I'm open to falling from grace

''A one two, a one two, a one two''

''A one two, a one two, a one two''

''A one two, a one two, a one two''

''A one two, a one two, a one two''
''A one two, a one two, a one two''

I loved this song the first time I heard it. I have a friend in Belfast that told me of them and this tune. I downloaded it and shared with many Sneaker Peeps!

LOVE this one. thanks for bringing it back.

What I'm hearing is the Stephen Colbert version of Bernie Sanders saying -
"I want soup, I want soup."
Bloody hell, I didn't know any decent bands came out of Hartlepool - bravo!
I forgot about Sneaker Pimps--thought for sure this was Morcheeba!  So smooth!

It's likely only one layer of multi-sheet board.

Harsh, the whole album is amazing. Perhaps a one album wonder, though I would loved to have seen what they could have done had they all stayed together for another album or two.

A near perfect track - needs to be longer

I'm slow today. Can you give me a hint?
Not a big fan of how many version of this song are out there. This is one is really not my fav but I love this song.

No, but they are birds of a ~*~*~*~*nicely exotic~*~*~*~*~* feather.
The exceedingly chill opening/repeating motif is sampled from "Golden Girl" by John Barry, from the soundtrack to "Goldfinger."

Did Morcheeba cover this?

So easily imitated. That being said, following MOBY, it is a nostalgic trip back to better times. Inevitably these artists are part of the OST, not favourite tracks, but essential to the story.

Apart from helping to make me want to buy this album...  Which I did.

Thanks for everything, Mr G.

I feel like it just did.

I saw SP at Glastonbury on the back of this album. very excited, only to find that Keli Ali had left the band and the guitarist had taken up vocals. not as good and the band just faded away. sad really cos they were going places.

There's an excellent live version of this on YouTube.

It's "a one two, a one two". Sampled from De La Soul's Breakadawn. Which is also a fantastic song from a stupendous album.

It might blow up, but it won't go pop!

Great stuff.  She used to make my heart go boom diddy boom.  I'm a bit old now, probably.

Track 3 on the album (this one is track 12 (or 99 (or however they did it originally))) isn't a tremendously different track IMO.  But it does not have the "a one-two, a one-two" and the guitar is all jangly and acoustic.  I quite like it.

This gets a whopping "7"...just because I love the band name. Song is cool too...reminds me of a more funky 'Garbage'.

Nice
I never thought I'd say this, but this song makes me almost miss the days when Giuliani was mayor of New York and the nightclubs were still fun. A beer was only $6, a cab ride to Brooklyn was $10, and you could still find a 1-bedroom in the East Village for $800 a month. Somehow I don't think we'll be looking back on 2001 - 2011 with as much nostalgia as the previous decades. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ditto. The rest is very average isn't it...

Only recently dicovered that the hook that really makes this song - that discordant harp part - is a sample from a James Bond soundtrack!

Weird that this followed the Fun Lovin' Criminals as I've always confused the two groups. Don't know why.
Excellent choice pairing this back-to-back with Fun Lovin' Criminals' "There Was A Time"

I'd forgotten how much I liked this song - gonna add it to MY playlist!
never have I heard someone play a cheap casio keyboard with too many studio effects with such conviction
a real classic!

I just can't understand how Sneaker Pimps later work (after Becoming X) has been totally ignored here on RP (and in other places). Guess it's time to upload some of their songs, especially from 'Splinter' (one of the best records I've ever heard, not a single bad song, all brilliant.) In response to some of the previous posters, I must say that the change of singer, from Kelli Dayton to Chris Corner, was to the better. So if any of you are put off from exploring SP's later work by those comments, don't be. I would also highly recommend Chris Corner's solo project 'IamX'.

I will never get tired of this song!!!!!!!!!
"...sick and tired of being bubble gum chewed up..."  pulled this out the other night and questioned how I could have forgotten how good this album is. The lyrics are amazing.  Now I hear it today.  One of the best of the '90's - 13 years later, you don't hear about them too much, but Britney Spears's career is still going strong - go figure.

I don't much care for his vocals.  I've heard one where he has backing/accompanying female vocals on the cut, and it's a decent tune (forget the name, and I didn't bother to "thumbs up" it in Pandora (or any other SP song off an album other than their debut for that matter)).

No! I won't have that! This girl can almost sing!
Her voice always hits me viscerally for some reason...

TMI?

I actually agree that the voice in this makes up a disproportionate amount of the value it brings.  The spell that is cast strong, and its strong because of her voice and the way she phrases and enunciates. Funny that thinking about this just made a connection I've wondered about for years.  I've always sort of confused Sneaker Pimps and Morcheeba and I never really knew why... its the evocative power of the singers' voice.  Morcheeba's Skye (actually, she's no longer with them) possesses a similar power with her voice... there's a song called "The Sea" where I find I am entranced by a certain line she sings:

"The cool breeze flows but mind the wasp, some get stung its worth the cost"

The way she sings "flows" gives me goosebumps almost without exception.  I think she's communicating much more than the words or the melody... its like I can see her smiling in joy with just that word.  That's either my overactive imagination or very real skill.  I believe its the latter.  The singer for this band (apparently one Kelly Dayton... I never knew that) has this same skill (again, assuming its not all in my head) :)
I'd rate this a ten, even if I heard it everyday.
Reminds me of the happy dotcom days...

There's a bit of a truism. Give me an example of pop from any modern era that is something without vocals. Yeah, that's what I thought. ;)

Hmmm, let's take away the guitar(s) from Led Zeppelin and then have a look what's remaining. Music often is the mirror to the time it has been produced in. So this song is a honest part of the 90s.

Like 80's music without the DX7 Sound chip. IE No background just a voice.Just the other way round from this track.... It is what it is, which makes it great....... :o) The 90's. May they rock in their own unique way....... No disrespect to your comment. Just did not join up in terms of analysis. Cheers anyway :oD

Splitting my listening time between RP and SOMA FM's "Groove Salad" program, I hear a good bit of this kind of music. I find it odd that a fair number of songs in this genre have great musical qualities (bass line, cool samples, etc.), only to be spoiled by lackluster female voices.
I remember this song - I think it was on Buffy. Sweet tune.

click the AMG link up above for a better detail, but the short version as i recall is the singer left to do her own thing while the rest of the band kept doing their thing, but never getting as much attention as their debut album.
