You managed to "mature out" of weed.  Good for you.  That, incidentally, is the formal term used in the literature.  In passing, I would curious as to why you stopped; I can think of about a dozen good reasons for doing so.

Remember 2-toke weed way back in the day?  Well, if you or others in a similar situation do try it again, start with a half-toke and wait 5 minutes.

Weed in DC is legal—you can grow up to six adult plants at home, you can get a license to smoke for medicinal purposes—but you're not supposed to smoke it in public. Still I pass by people on the street or in parked cars and you can smell it.

It'd be interesting to try the pot grown nowadays. I'd likely be on my ass in no time at all.

Well, then I have some knock-you-back Sativa for you to try my friend........

I personally prefer Indica but not the crazy, punch-in-the-head Indicas.  I like the well-balanced, full spectrum head/body stone Indica.     If I pull too much, I might slow down in a bit but that is quickly rectified with physical activity or barring that a cup of coffee or black tea.

If growing your own, the trick is to delay the harvest  and allow the orange hair to grow.

The black market focused on upping the THC content in some of the Kush varieties.  Nobody has tried that with Sativa though in recent years, some of the Sativa-Indica hybrids are super strong, but reasonably well balanced depending on how the plant is grown and when it is harvested.

————————————

Just pondering here.....  RP is just as good or better than any of the alternative FM stations back in the 60s and early 70s.   Weed is available today in both the legal and black markets in varieties and strengths that were difficult if not impossible to find back in the day.

The good ol' days?   No.  These are the 'good new days'.

I had the pleasure of some Orange Kush about a year or two ago on my last trip to NC.  Fucking knocked my socks off.  Saw the plants, too.  Very unusual variety, small and dense.  Definitely an Indica, just by appearance.  I would like some more, not a problem.  Clear headed, but planted to the couch for a couple of hours with a big grin.  It would be for special occasions though, not an everyday thing.

It's more than just the color of the hairs for timing the harvest.  What matters more is the color of the crystals on the buds.  Usually you want to take it when those crystals are about half yellowy white and half golden brown.  The longer you wait past that point, the THC starts diminishing and the CBD potency grows as more of the crystals get browner or darker.  At least this is my understanding based from people who know more than I do.  This is where knowing this and the timing is important because you have roughly a two week window before the change really goes to the CBD.  You can also see a noticeable change in how the bud grows from that point on.  You need to stop fertilizing at least a week before taking it to flush all of that out of the plant for a better taste.  Some stuff is done in 60 days and others can take up to 70 or 80 days once you change the times and light colors for budding when indoors.  Outdoors would be the same for the crystals, but the length of the maturing process is different with natural light and the more gradual changes in the length and the colors of the daylight.  So I'm told.

I enjoy getting a little high, euphoric, relaxed, etc.  I do not enjoy getting nailed to the couch.  Some of the black market strains were already strong enough to nail me to the couch and do even worse several decades ago.

In response to market demand, black market growers pushed the THC content higher.  This came at the cost of less CBD content.  That created a punchy, intense, speed-like high.  Not fun, not enjoyable.  Apparently some of this powerful THC-dominated weed was capable of triggering psychotic events in some vulnerable consumers.

It's not the THC content that matters as much as the strain does.  You have basically three strains.  Sativa, Indica and I forget the strain that is basically Ganga from the Caribbean Islands that morphed from one or the other previously mentioned.  IIRC correctly that came from India and was primarily grown on the islands for rope and obviously also to get high.  Perhaps it is called Ganga because the strain did originate from India.  This is fuzzy knowledge from a long time ago.  They each have their own properties and then when you cross breed them you get even more nuances.  And then with frequent use, you do get used to it and the effects become less overwhelming with time and can even become hardly anything notable.  You need to have a choice and rotate them to avoid getting used to it and having only a mild effect after a period of time.

Having been enjoying cannabis since roughly 1965, I've only had two kinds that had me tripping, that were not laced with anything.  The first was Acapulco Gold. Only had it a couple of times as it was pretty rare. I got a lid for $10.  For you kids, a lid was a three finger Glad baggie and an ounce was usually a four finger baggie and cost $15. It was bright yellowy gold in color with a yummy taste.  That was very, very trippy compared to anything I had before.  Then when I went to school in Florida in 1970 - 71, I came across some true Jamaican (Ganga).  The shit was stringy and more resembled fine chewing tobacco than anything I had seen before.  No buds and few seeds.  That stuff was psychedelic.

I have had some medical stuff over the past 20 or so years that has knocked my socks off, most notably brought by some house guests visiting from the PNW about 10 or so years ago.  Currently I'm enjoying three different varieties, Girl Scout Cookie, Strawberry Diesel and Chocolate Diesel.  I have three others that are of unknown heritage and I won't know how or what they are until Januaryish.  Each one is different from the other.  And then I have some different flavored oil carts which are what they are because I can only get what I can get.

I do enjoy getting nailed to the couch at times.  Stuck on stupid I like to call it.  Not all the time but when I do, I do.  Mostly though, I like to just get a nice buzz and still be able to function at a reasonable level.  I'm still trying to decide which of these strains really does what and which in particular helps the wife with her back pains the most.  Adding a vaporizer to the equation will make this easier to sort out I hope.

I'm kinda dubious about how much pain relief you get other than caring less about it.  It all affect everyone differently anyway to a certain extent.  Your hormone levels have a bearing on reactions, too.  That said there are real medical benefits such as lowering internal pressures within the eye and outright cancer tumor killing properties.  Those are real.  The more we study and learn, the more we will know.  Is cannibus the next aspirin ?  Might be.  In the mean time, I do enjoy the original purpose and I'm not talking about making rope ...

Oh, and I don't drink alcohol.  Cannot remember the last time I had any, just that it was a couple of shots of some single malt or barrel or whatever Jack at a Friday the 13th party years ago.  And that was years after the last prior indulgence.  Just up and stopped.  Not on purpose or anything, just outgrew the desire and that the mornings after are a drag.  Never liked the taste anyway.  Just drank to get drunk.  And having a CDL, the legal limit for me is 0.04 regardless of when or where.  That is pretty much just one beer, eh ?

kurtster,

The weed grown in North America went way past the strength I want several decades ago.   But I have thought about it from a medical perspective, in particular chronic, serious pain management.

There is a clear oil that I have smoked a couple of times in spliffs here in town.   It is called Honey Dew elsewhere (I think).  I believe it is made by using butane or some other chemical.   The guys I know order it from personal sources in the interior of BC (that are coincidentally regions known for massive outdoor grows).

Leaves me staggering, inarticulate and blubbering.    Translation:  not in control.

Apparently, I can get it at the cannabis store on the rez in the city but have not bothered to explore that option.   Sometimes stuff that is still not legal elsewhere is available at the local rez.

This oil is what I would use if I was in serious pain.  This is what I would recommend to somebody experiencing serious pain, somebody capable of careful self-medication.   Either under the tongue or on top of dry flower in a small water pipe.

The Election is Over but not the stress.  Any edibles left?

For many people across the United States, help came in the form of gummy bears, cookies, chocolates and gel capsules, all infused with a dose of cannabis calibrated to soothe Election Day jitters.Credit...Kelsey McClellan for The New York Times

Pasted:

Medical professionals largely agree that edibles appear to be safer than smoking or vaping, but note that they carry some risk. The psychoactive effects from edibles can take hours to kick in, leading people to consume one gummy or chocolate too many as they grow impatient.
