of course this won't happen over night

both parties are grandstanding/posturing for votes

if it was up to me, i'd just let them in

it needs to end like all other wars: after enough damage, destruction, death and debt, you just stop

just do something productive

let peaceful people alone

let them be

that's it

Again, do not be fooled by those who have been saying this (The Wall, Sanctuary Cities, etc) is about illegal immigration, not legal immigration. The line continues to blur.

The Trump administration announced that the  ceiling  for refugee admissions for the fiscal year that began yesterday will be 15,000, the lowest refugee admissions ceiling since the program began 40 years ago. The refugee maximum in the 4 decades before Trump averaged about 96,000.

Again, this is about being anti-immigrant, period. Well, except for the “merit-based” ones, of course.

A new report by immigration rights advocates highlights an alarming pattern of human rights violations against pregnant and postpartum asylum seekers in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection during the pandemic. Some of the accounts include a Guatemalan asylum seeker who was forced to give birth next to a trash can while still wearing pants and a pregnant Honduran asylum seeker who was expelled to Mexico while she was having contractions. This follows shocking reports that a doctor at an ICE jail in Georgia has been performing hysterectomies on immigrant women without their consent.

Trump Cabinet officials voted in 2018 White House meeting to separate migrant children, say officials
"If we don't enforce this, it is the end of our country as we know it," said Trump adviser Stephen Miller, according to officials present at a White House meeting.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration proposed sweeping regulations that would end the U.S. asylum system as we know it. The proposal would create insurmountable obstacles for asylum seekers fleeing persecution by narrowing the circumstances under which people can be granted asylum and denying applicants a fair hearing. These changes would have a particularly harmful impact on survivors of torture and gender-based violence, the LGBTQ+ community, and those fleeing gang violence.

We have until July 15, 2020, 11:59 PM ET to urge the administration to withdraw these proposed regulations.

The administration must consider and respond to each unique comment submitted on these proposed regulations. In your comment, draw from your personal experiences and expertise. Did your ancestors come to the U.S. as refugees? Are you or do you know an asylum seeker or asylee? Why do YOU oppose these changes? Why do you stand with asylum seekers?

The order, which has been expected for several weeks, is fiercely opposed by a broad swathe of businesses — including high tech companies in Silicon Valley, manufacturers, and others — whose leaders say it will block their ability to recruit critically needed workers from overseas countries for jobs that Americans cannot or will not perform.

Stephen Miller, the architect of the president’s restrictive immigration policies, has pushed for years to limit or eliminate the worker visas, arguing that they harm employment prospects for Americans. In recent months, he has argued that the economic distress caused by the virus has made it even more important to turn off the spigot of foreign entry into the United States.

We are only against illegal immigration. So we just want to make all immigration illegal.

Did he offer any evidence that immigration (legal or otherwise) was bringing the virus into the country? Yes, that was a rhetorical question.
