Mrs. White: But that was his job. He was an illusionist.
Wadsworth: But he never reappeared!
Mrs. White: He wasn't a very good illusionist.

Capt. Renault:  We mustn't underestimate American blundering. I was with them when they blundered into Berlin in 1918.

RENAULT:  I have often speculated on why you don't return to America. Did you abscond with the church funds? Did you run off with a senator's wife? I like to think you killed a man. It's the romantic in me.

Rick still looks in the direction of the airport.

RICK:  It was a combination of all three.

RENAULT:  And what in heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?

RICK:  My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.

RENAULT:  Waters? What waters? We're in the desert.

RICK:  I was misinformed.

I think Groucho Marx would have killed to be in "Casablanca."
The backstory to the script is pretty interesting - they were re-writing during filming. They got away with some things that wouldn't have passed the censors.

One of the most quotable movies ever. Up there with Blazing Saddles and GWTW.

I've heard that Ingrid Bergman at one point during filming asked the screenwriters which man her character ends up with, Lazlo or Rick. The screenwriters weren't sure.

Two of the three credited screenwriters (apparently there were a lot more writers involved than three) were the twin brothers, Julius and Phillip Epstein. Phillip was grandfather and Julius granduncle to the President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs, Theo Epstein.

Flint Sky: Those people in the forest, what did you see on them?
Jaguar Paw: I do not understand.
Flint Sky: Fear. Deep rotting fear. They were infected by it. Did you see? Fear is a sickness. It will crawl into the soul of anyone who engages it. It has tainted your peace already. I did not raise you to see you live with fear. Strike it from your heart. Do not bring it into our village.

Mr. Perlman: When you least expect it, nature has cunning ways of finding our weakest spot. You two had a nice friendship. You're too smart not to know how rare, how special what you two had was. We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of thirty and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to make yourself feel nothing so as not to feel anything - what a waste! Have I spoken out of turn? Then I'll say one more thing. It'll clear the air. I may have come close, but I never had what you two have. Something always held me back or stood in the way. How you live your life is your business, just remember, our hearts and our bodies are given to us only once. And before you know it, your heart is worn out, and, as for your body, there comes a point when no one looks at it, much less wants to come near it. Right now, there's sorrow, pain. Don't kill it and with it the joy you've felt.

ETA: Warner Brothers tried to sue them for using Casablanca in the movie name. Groucho threatened to counter-sue for using Brothers in Warner Brothers

In the Lord of the Rings trilogy, a character at one point complains that he wishes none of the hardships he faced had ever occurred. The wise wizard, Gandalf responds, “so do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
