Hallucinogens, alcohol and shifting leadership strategies in the ancient Peruvian Andes

Here is the wiki-page on the hallucinogen that was used:   Anadenanthera colubrina

———————————————

It is a fascinating hypothesis that esoteric knowledge of concocting hallucinogenic brews helped consolidate political power.

Especially in light of how alcohol has been so ruinous for so many North American indigenous peoples and how alcohol contributed to weakening the Russian state.   The entire subject matter is interesting given the current interest in hallucinogenic drugs for mental health.

If you look carefully at the Antiquity journal article, you will see San Pedro cactus in the lists of botanical remains recovered from Quilcapampa.  San Pedro cactus is similar in effect to Peyto buttons. Mescaline is the active ingredient.

Withdrawal of Proposed Rule: Placement of 4-hydroxy-N,N-diisopropyltryptamine (4-OH-DiPT), 5-methoxy-alpha-methyltryptamine (5-MeO-AMT), 5-methoxy-N-methyl-N-isopropyltryptamine (5-MeO-MiPT), 5-methoxy-N,N-diethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DET), and N,N-diisopropyltryptamine (DiPT) in Schedule I (PDF)

ACTION: Withdrawal of proposed rule and withdrawal of notice of hearing.

SUMMARY: The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is withdrawing a proposed rule that was published in the Federal Register on January 14, 2022, which proposed to place five tryptamine hallucinogens in schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.

From some googling, I would say that these synthetic tryptamine (mushrooms) derivatives would be most commonly used in the Rave / Dance scene.  Designer drugs, the first famous one was Ecstasy.  One of these listed above is nicknamed Molly which I have heard about.  Not anything I would want to try, maybe the last one DiPT, but that would be it. In the present fentanyl laced climate, actually no way in hell.

Some links ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4-HO-DiPT

https://psychonautwiki.org/wiki/4-HO-DiPT
search the codes inside the parenthesis and the info will pop up.

I have no idea what you would experience as far as usage in the Bay Area.  I would say those 30 and under, but that is just a guess.

Surprised none of the many Dead Heads around here have not chimed in.

I am glad he mentioned towards the end about not abusing them because I think the general lay person underestimates the dangers of MDMA abuse in the adverse effect of the brains ability to produce serotonin.   This is no joke and imo is just as and possibly even more dangerous then abusing other drugs that have such bad reputations as heroin, cocaine and meth.  Of course any drug sans Marijuana is dangerous when using chronically, but in terms of halllucinogens it seems to me that pure LSD is the safest provided you don't go all Syd Barrett or Peter Green.{#Eek}  Possibly mushrooms, but I have a bias against them for my body just does not like them and I get sick. In my experience there is nothing better than pure LSD of course acquiring pure LSD is quite the challenge, but I suppose you take a risk with anything on the black market.  I do think that I'm relatively qualified to make a judgment considering that I have done a large enough sample size of all of them except for heroin to have a reasonably well formed opinion.  There is nothing worse than a MDMA hangover from excessive serotonin dumping I tell ya what.{#Sad}

I've heard of people who have tripped 50 times or more. Dang. How?

Looking back it seemed that emotional state going into it had everything to do with the experience which for me was net negative. Maybe I'm not ready for the next level of wakefulness or I'm repressing some super heavy inner turmoil. The eye of the storm can be a pretty frightening and weird place even if it is calm. It's like staring down a monster.

Also I'll say this as to a more positive
experience I had; the forest is an interesting place to share orange sunshine with a friend. So much to see. I'm sort of glad I wasn't there after dark though. No more faces. I couldn't do that again.
I'm not sure I would ever try anything like that again.

It really isn't for everyone, we all have different brains and reactions.  Admittedly LSD really suited my brain configuration marvelously.  I just loved it, but you can no longer trust what they are putting out anymore.{#No}

The two most common psychedelic drugs used in microdosing are Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and Psilocybin (psychoactive mushrooms).<5><6> A microdose is usually 1/10 to 1/20 of an active dose of a psychedelic drug.<6>

In contrast to the recreational use of psychedelics, individuals who microdose stick to strict drug schedules, often dosing about every 3 days, and do not observe any impairment to their normal functioning.<4> In a study that evaluated the effects of three different doses of LSD on healthy human volunteers, it was concluded that the threshold dose of LSD that would affect normal functioning is 13 ug.<7> Doses lower than this are considered appropriate for microdosing with LSD.<7>

I imagine it would depend on what one's job was or what was expected of that employee.  A lot of silicon valley employees probably still play air hockey or ping-pong half the day.    It could enhance "creative" endeavors, but in reality, very, very, very few people get paid for actually being creative.    It was useful for artistic undertakings but most "work" or "physical" things (even playing guitar) was hampered by it in my experience.  Maybe it does have something to do with the "micro part" as you mentioned.
