Actually, I discovered RP in Second Life.  Ain't that some shit?!  SL is a special-interest social networking website to most.  Cartoon sex may attract the perverts, but even they get bored and leave.  The sex part of SL was intended as an (albeit crude) joke.  How long is posing Barbie and Ken in a lewd position funny?  I happen to have a very active real life, but I have also made friends all over the world who share similar cultural, artistic and social interests as I do through SL.  And none of it is related to pornography or sex.  Imagine that?  Some people actually don't use the internet for sex or porn.  Even if SL tanks, my network of contatcs there is also mutually stored elsewhere, and many of us have even had the occasion to meet globally while traveling.  Like anything else, SL is what you make of it.  No, it isn't a means for profit mongers to buy gold-plated helicopters.  Good luck finding that elsewhere if you're so inclined.

Recently, in another thread, Welly said she just doesn't 'get' Twitter.  I know what she means.  I 'get' what Twitter is about - but I just don't see a need to stay on top of what family and friends are doing via tweets - isn't that what Facebook is all about — and does it so much better?  So personally, Twitter is not for me - thus, in that context, and like Welly, I also don't 'get' it either.  However, for a concert venue I'm doing some communications for, it looks like it could be a suitable toy to talk to the masses.

Now as to Second Life — from the very beginning I've though wtf is this and why should anyone care?  There's plenty of RPG stuff out there for those so-inclined to game-away their time on this earth.   And Second LIfe seems to me much like a cross between an RPG game and a chat room.  Bleh.  How uninteresting.  Color me surprised to read that a big draw on SL is the virtual sex.    As if virtual sex isn't available already in every nook and cranny on the net.  Whatev.

I don't get Second LIfe.  Never did.  Never will.  I continue to think its merely a playground for those with No Life.

I'm trying to explore this place (the whole game) and find it almost devoid of life, and don't understand it at all.
