I just binged the first three episodes thru Comcast .FBI agent Clarice Staring is listed as one of the top ten heroes in cinematic history by the American Film Institute. Being asked to play the role of Clarice Staring in a reboot is kind of a big ask ; the reality is there's no replacing Jodie Foster in any universe. :) I have to say Rebecca Breeds is really carrying the show.I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised.

Just saw Zoom and very much enjoyed it. Well crafted and where it is over the top, that's integral to the story. I wouldn't watch the trailer first.

Whiskey on Beer, Doc About Miami Cult Punk Band Load, to Premiere at FLIFF

“Load was better than AC/DC!”

That's the sort of sentiment you'll hear from the mouths of nostalgic fans, for whom the Miami-based band represented the power and angst of South Florida’s punk and hardcore sound from the '90s.

To honor the group, brothers Gary and Tarek "Rick" Ahmed, Connecticut natives, blow the dust off Load's rise and fall in Whiskey on Beer, an hourlong documentary that features interviews with musicians, club owners, bartenders, and fans who lived to tell the story. Among those who appear in the film: Shai Hulud's Matt Fox, Marilyn Manson's Scott Putesky, and Interpol's Sam Fogarino.

The film will premiere at Savor Cinema November 8 as part of this year's Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF).

The beauty of Load’s sound was layered in punk, alternative, and sludge, but more crucially, it emerged from deep in the soul of the group's charismatic and erratic frontman, the late Robert Johnston, AKA Bobby Load.

“For anybody that remembers that time, it was very difficult to see past Bobby. He was so exceptional as a frontman. He epitomized what a punk-rock singer should be onstage,” former Load drummer Fausto Figueredo  remembers.

We actually own it, but I just haven't watched it yet.  I have to watch with German subtitles, which I think I can manage....I actually watched Auf Die Anderen Seite this way and got by pretty well...  It is harder for me to follow just listening.  OH..my husband just informed me that actually the copy he has only has Scandinavian subtitles.  Unfortunately, that isn't going to work for me. My Danish knowledge is still very little...    (I am actually American btw... :) )

I recently saw 2 very good (and very different from each other) films at the Santa Barbara International Film Fest.

Tulpan
After completing his naval service, young Asa travels back to the Kazakh steppe where his sister and her shepherd husband live a nomadic life.

and
Automorphosis

About art cars and their eccentric owners. Really fun!

Have you seen any Aki Kaurismaki films?  A Finnish director with a wicked sense of humor....but his style is not for everyone.  It is very FINNISH, in that there isn't a lot of
dialogue, but when there is, it is priceless!    I would recommend any of his, but I especially liked The Man Without A Past.

Well, it's not really Del Toro's film (I am a huge fan of his work, though). El Orfanato is the first film by this guy Juan Antonio Bayona, and I'm looking forwards to seeing more of his work. Spanish film is getting extraordinarily good in recent years.
