we hear sounds like that in our house. for us, it sounds like a box of stuff being dropped on the floor and it sounds like it's coming from inside the walls or attic.

We were sitting here in a quiet house, and there was a rather loud crashing sound from the back of the house. The cats were both on the bed, we were both in the living room. We have no idea what it was. Dragon thinks it was a big chunk of ice melting and falling off of the roof, but there is no ice on the ground. There is nothing out of place, nothing amiss in the back or side yard. SO yeah, weird sound.
