I tried a 2017 iPad Pro, an iPhone 6 and Xs, and an Apple TV4. The AppleTV sounds the best but I don't like to have to turn on the tv to see what artist is playing.
You should be able to look at the metadata from the phone while the appleTV is playing, just bring down the control center from up right and tap the Airplay button (on the extreme up right), there you should have anything playing on your Airplay 2-capable devices (Apple TV included)... Anyway, the recent version of the iOS/tvOS apps supports and play ALAC and that's probably way better from both the compatibility and the audio quality points of view.

A cheap Android tablet would work also — though Apple's built-in DAC would probably be a lot better. Their analog audio output is very, very clean.
