UPDATE: Ran some experiments and it seems the best way to make the RP app behave well with Carplay is to, well, avoid a Carplay launch altogether.  Everything seems to operate well enough if you simply open the RP app, get the stream up and underway THEN plug into the car while everything is running.  I guess this isn't so very different than your earlier suggestion in the thread.

Still ran into the issue of the app collapsing to the home screen when attempting to delete a cache that has auto-fill underway.  At this point, I just deleted the app entirely, reinstalled and started a single cache from scratch.  I'll keep you posted if I run into issues with not getting a "play from cache" option on a cache that may be auto-filling between listening sessions.  Hope this all helps with your efforts to continue offering a first-rate experience!

Yes. Starting the stream before CarPlay, with CarPlay attached (but from the app), with the device unlocked or from CarPlay, but with a cached playlist are basically the same thing. The point is to avoid hitting the network with the device locked. It seems one of the _security limitations_ somewhat related to the "USB accessories" security setting (that came with iOS 12.2).

There are significant concurrency problems in filling a cache that's playing... if the _play point_ goes ahead of the _download point_ very strange things happens (I bet a crash with corruption of the data stack).

It should be possible to remove a cache that's downloading, btw... it works for sure for "normal" downloads, I'll try to reproduce the problem with auto-filling cache, and I'll fix it if I can.

Well, meanwhile I found the root problem: CarPlay has what’s probably a bug for which the app cannot access the network while locked. This makes impossible to start, from a locked phone, to an online channel.
options to work around it are: unlock the phone before starting (no need to start the app on the phone, just the device must be unlocked); start with a cached playlist.

on the list you should see the online channels and, after, the cached playlist you have on the phone. The playlist only appears if it is fully downloaded, so if it is “reloading” it will not appear untile the download finished. You can check that on the cache manager (it will read “downloaded” in the cache row). Anything else is a know bug I’d like to know about, so get back if don’t work.

Where is the problem?

Probably non enough bandwidth to start the stream before the timeout. CarPlay is strict on audio starting time, and the timeout is a system one, I cannot change it. Please, send us the logs, so I can check if this is really the problem or something else is happening: just go to preferences (the gear icon) -> Feedback -> Malfunction. To mitigate you could load a cache block  and start the cache... or wait until you're out of the garage, when the connection is better (that's what solved it for me). 🙂

Running iOS 12.2 on PR app v. 7.0.3 and I'm having a similar issue, tried your solution but I'm not seeing the "play from cache" option anymore.  Does this have to do with the 'auto-fill' (which BTW is great for the same reason you've stated elsewhere "opps... forgot to fill the cache, now I've got no music") feature just implemented?

Am I to understand unless you sync to the live steam, it is playing from the cache by default?  or should I be launching the cache from the cache manager? (clicking/double clicking on the loaded cache?)

I appreciate the hassle you have dealing with the gymnastics to play in Apple's sandbox but I'm struggling with losing the previous version's ability to easily punch up the cache with a single selection.

Please school me on what I should be doing.  Thanks in advance!

Thanks much.  I'm heading out in the car so I'll try it out and report back.  At least I now know why the "play from cache"playlist is not appearing as a selection. Does this mean one has to start a "listening session" with a full up cache in order to have it appear as a selection?  Seems like an issue for concurrent listening sessions if you're not in a place where it can be replenished and the cache is not 100% loaded.

One other thing I'm seeing from the Cache Manager is if a playlist is in the process of auto-filling, that particular stream cache can't be deleted and throws a spanner in the entire app.  Just me?
