Am I crazy or is it really true that The Stooges are in the rock and roll Hall of Fame, but the MC5 are not?
Those two things are not mutually exclusive
Maybe but the fact is MC5 is much better than The Stooges in a vacuum ergo this is a travesty. Admittedly I prefer musicians that can actually play and realize that is not what punk is about, but still. Stooges guitar player was good though, I will give them that but cmon.
The HoF is really just a hobby of Jann Wenner and some other non-musicians - there is no public mandate. Ahmet Ertegun's original idea was a noble one, but their induction process is essentially trying to find artists who can sell the most tickets to their induction galas. The idea of Rock 'n' Roll having a Hall of Fame always seemed antithetical to me anyhow, and trying to figure out their undisclosed selection process seems to be a waste of time. Anyhow, among their alleged criteria for induction are things like ground-breaking styles, influence on later artists, etc. The Stooges and the MC5 were two bands in the exact same place at the same time (and you know that "punk rock" was a term which didn't exist until around 1976 or '77). Who was better is just a matter of opinion, though personally,MC5 seemed more one-dimensional to me. If Jagdriver were still around here he would probably have better-formed opinion since he was in the Detroit area at that time and probably saw both bands numerous times. I assume the HoF made their induction of The Stooges based on Iggy Pop's continued presence and influence - which really doesn't address The Stooges work - but mostly based on the draw that induction would have had. It would've been more interesting and entertaining had they inducted both acts in the same year but we can't change that.

A song came on that I didn't recognize but also didn't like. So I went to the little popup player and saw album art and the name of the band: The War on Drugs. I remember thinking, hmm, I thought I like those guys but I'm not in the mood for it now, and clicked PSD. When the PSD song was over, the main stream came back to ...Porcupine Tree. I PSD'd again but looked at the last song before PT and it was not TWOD. Hmm, so I checked the whole playlist and nope. The band isn't even in the library. But the song I PSD'd was NOT PorcTree. It also wasn't the TWOD song I've been hearing lately. What the hey.
There are two songs in the library. There has always been something a little spooky about the library search function. If you search for "war" it only finds those by War, but if you search for "war o" or "drug" it will find them.
