It's a good thing I didn't see it either or never I would have come up with the extra clues.

Yeah, the 'Japanese' clue threw me and Maryte off. It was the music/environment part that clinched it.

The title is supposed to mean 'Life out of balance' or something like that. There was a follow-up movie that didn't fare nearly as well.

I do remember something like this that I only saw a trailer for as well.  I think it had some vaguely environmental theme and its title was one Japanese word of three or four syllables which I think meant harmony or balance or some such but that's about all I remember about it.

What was the heart-rending Japanese film from the eighties about the 70 year old woman in the village who walked up the hill never to return so as not to be a burden on the others in her old age (was customary practice apparently). I doubt very much it had a trailer or started with the letter K but it was a moving film.

There was a film, in the eighties I believe, I think it was Japanese and the title was a single word beginning with a K.  The trailer for it was simply the title in red on a black background.  Any ideas?  Anyone?

Karate Kid wasn't Japanese.

:snort:

I'm betting on Ran also. Pull up the trailer for it.
