PT is good, but I agree a bit overplayed. But Bill has turned me on to so much good stuff, like Republic Tigers, Carbon Leaf, etc. Plus keeping legends like Neil relevant. I've even heard Lynyrd Skynyrd here: at first I thought it was the Apocalypse, but no, just Bill busting expectations.

Feeling extremely late to the party, but I'm happy to get turned on to Porcupine Tree. I've heard tons of echos I love in and from their music. Would we have the Smashing Pumpkins without PT as progenitor?

in my opinion they are absolutely positively the most overplayed band on RP.  For me its not that their songs are necessarily bad or overly self-indulgent, or too-proggy, or genius, or whatever people like to say about them, its that the amount that they are played doesn't make sense to me when analyzing the entire RP play list.  To me they fit in with Rush, Yes, Genesis, Dream Theater, Symphony X etc, not with Radiohead, Talking Heads, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Neil Young, Neko Case, etc.  Yet Rush, Yes, and Genesis hardly ever get played and all those other bands get played all the time.  So Porcupine Tree always seems out of place to me

it is amazing how many times I turn on RP and there is a Porcupine Tree song playing.  it drives me crazy!
