Here's a worthy fundraiser. Spend some time reading about it and see if the windfall the pizza family has received really makes you feel good about the world.

Bigot:

No one, I think, would ever have denied that Maurice Bessinger was a man of faith.

And he wasn’t particularly a “still, small voice” man either; he wanted everybody in earshot to know that slavery had been God’s will, that desegregation was Satan’s work, and the federal government was the Antichrist. God wanted only whites to eat at Bessinger’s six Piggie Park barbecue joints; so His servant Maurice took that fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which in 1968 decided that his religious freedom argument was “patently frivolous.”

Until the day he died, however, Bessinger insisted that he and God were right.  His last fight was to preserve the Confederate flag as a symbol of South Carolina. “I want to be known as a hard-working, Christian man that loves God and wants to further (God’s) work throughout the world as I have been doing throughout the last 25 years,” he told his hometown newspaper in 2000. (...)

Nowadays he might have called himself a Tea Party patriot. {#Wink}

Just saying.

What exactly did the woman say that makes her a bigot in your mind ?

While you were looking it up, did you happen to check out the interesting etymology or maybe a thesaurus?

If you go to the page. note the total and hit refresh after about 5 minutes ... simply amazing.

Now another 2 minutes and now 358k.

I still have the first page up and it was at $339k at 9.20 EDT now in just about 10 minutes elapsed time it is $377k.

I have to say that I first became aware of this go fund me campaign watching FNC at about 9.15 and looked for it.  Right now I would say that Fox watchers are the bulk of the current increase.

What we have here is — as we called in journalism school jargon — “no story.” Nothing happened. Nothing was about to happen.

If I were forced to mark out a story line, it would be this: A nice lady in a small town tries to be helpful and polite to a lovely young reporter from “the big city.”

They merely answered questions from a novice reporter who strolled into their restaurant one day – who was sent on a mission by an irresponsible news organization

I'm not blaming her.  I'm blaming her bosses with an agenda who dispatched her.

And pizza catered at wedding?  Exactly.  Purely invented out of thin air.

Local Indiana Station Ambushes Memories Pizza to Gin Up an RFRA Story

Welcome to the media bias of the left.
Buried near the end of the article, some facts: "The O'Connor family told ABC 57 news that if a gay couple or a couple belonging to another religion came in to the restaurant to eat, they would never deny them service."

After a quick read of a couple of your links, I hold her essentially blameless. It's a valid question, to see if the law affects anyone, and I don't see where she baited the people. They didn't give their answer a whole lot of thought, which is unfortunate. The editors (and headline writers around the world) fabricated a story and in the case of most of the headlines posted here, lied. Your link, it wasn't an ambush. It was a fabrication. "Refuses to cater gay weddings" is also a lie, since, as noted, to "Refuses to" implies someone asked them.

and as some commenter I saw yesterday said: "Gay couple asks pizza place to cater their wedding? Never happened."

Indiana pizza shop refuses to cater gay weddings, instantly has internet presence destroyed - CBC News
(...) "If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no," owner Crystal O'Connor told ABC 57 News on Tuesday.

"We are a Christian establishment," she said of the family business. "We're not discriminating against anyone, that's just our belief and anyone has the right to believe in anything."

The O'Connors didn't stop there.

"That lifestyle is something they choose. I choose to be heterosexual. They choose to be homosexual," said Kevin O'Connor, Crystal's father. (...)

I did find the page that the list came from.  I think it's telling that they provide links to the text of the law but only for 6 out of the 20 and one of those is an admission the the pi thing isn't really a law.  The praying for you kid one by my reading seems to be more of a Christian Science exemption to a child neglect/endangerment law rather than anything about paying any bills incurred.  They've got a page for Wyoming and all the other states as well, but as I said it seems to be pretty sloppy research to me.

It is illegal for a man to be sexually aroused in public.

Hotel sheets must be exactly 99 inches long and 81 inches wide. If any person has a puppet show, wire dancing or tumbling act in the state of Indiana and receives money for it, they will be fined $3 under the Act to Prevent Certain Immoral Practices.

Anyone 14 or older who profanely curses, damns or swears by the name of God, Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, shall be fined one to three dollars for each offense, with a maximum fine of ten dollars per day.

A three dollar fine per pack will be imposed on anyone playing cards in Indiana under the Act for the Prevention of Gaming.

The value of Pi is 3.

Grocery stores may not sell any type of cold liquor.

You are required to pour your drink into a glass.

You can get out of paying for a dependent’s medical care by praying for him/her.

“Spiteful Gossip” and “talking behind a person’s back” are illegal. One may not sniff glue.

One man may not back into a parking spot becasue it prevents police officers from seeing the license plate.

State government officials who engage in private duels can be dismissed from their post.

A person must get a referral from a licensed physician if he or she wishes to see a hypnotist unless the desired procedure is to quit smoking or lose weight.

Smoking in the state legislature building is banned, except when the legislature is in session.

All males 18 to 50 years old must work six days a year on public roads.

Baths may not be taken between the months of October and March.

Check forgery can be punished with public flogging up to 100 stripes.

Mustaches are illegal if the bearer has a tendency to habitually kiss other humans.

As bad as it is here I think they may be playing a little fast and loose with this list.  You can do this for almost any state particularly if you start looking at local ordinances which I suspect a lot of these are.  Back in the day most places had some laws regulating dueling and as a general rule it is easier to just stop enforcing dumb and outdated laws rather than actually repealing them.  The infamous "pi law" they refer to was a bill that was never passed and wasn't really about the value of pi.  Most likely a similar level of fact checking and selective editing was put into the rest of the list as well.  It's a shame too because with a little effort they could have come up with a much better list of actual laws many still being enforced.  When I was a kid getting a drivers or any other kind of license required paying a fee to the political party of the governor.  We finally got the feds to put a stop to that.  Any of the liquor laws mentioned above though probably are true and excise agents will cite you for any of them. They got to make a buck somehow.  The "Grocery stores may not sell any type of cold liquor." is quite true but it's even stranger than that.  Grocery stores are allowed to sell cold soft drinks however package liquor stores where you are allowed to buy cold beer may not sell cold soft drinks.  Many have vending machines located just outside the building.  Warm beer and soda of course can be obtained at either establishment. You are not allowed to play bridge, euchre, or anything else that involves having a deck of cards in any establishment that serves any alcoholic beverages.  You can't buy any alcohol on election day while the polls are open and you need it the most.  There used to be no alcohol sales of any kind on Sunday but back in the 90s they started letting restaurants the had 80% (or there abouts) of their sales in food sell drinks too.  Just recently they made an exception for tasting rooms in microbreweries and wineries as well.  I could on and on but it would be too depressing for me.  The General Assembly has been a constant source of embarrassment to me my whole life.

I worked for Lucent Technologies at the time of the spin off from Bell Labs. They had us all in the auditorium when they rolled out the logo. There were a few swirly iterations as they morphed from the deathstar ATT logo to the swirl/swoop, then they fixed on the final swoop, then they went through colors - brown, yellow, blue, purple, red. Then they stopped with the red swoop/circle and waited for a reaction. The crowd was silent. It was awkward.
