To the pole, at least, try to let it go
But nobody knows what they're fooling with here
There will be time and there will be a sign (Ape)
When all the kids who have cancelled time will (Ape)
Take my hands and pull me up again (Ape)
Cheer me up and help me walk again (Walk again, walk again)

To the pole, at least, try to let it go
But nobody knows what they're fooling with here (Ape)
I got bones, and I got jaded legs (Ape)
Not the type that can win a race (Ape)
Living plastic on a vacant lot (Ape)
Left behind, staring at a robot

Don't be sad for me (Ape)
I'm a cartoon G (Ape)
And my intent is to breathe (Ape)
In a new world, don't be sad for me

(Ape)
Breathe
(Ape)

I can balance on the highest tree (Ape)
You can only see outlines of me (Ape)
I can disappear, or lighten your day (Ape)
Imitate and say, "I'm a skinny little ape" (Ape)

Don't be sad for me (I'm a skinny little ape) (Ape)
I'm a cartoon G (I'm a cartoon G) (Ape)
And my intent is to breathe (Ape)
In a new world, don't be sad for me

Don't be sad for me (Embarrassing, I think I'm gonna fly)
I'm a cartoon G (But now I'm in the plastic and staring at the sky)
And my intent is to breathe (Ape)
In a new world, don't be sad for me

This starts off pretty listenable then turns into an ear destroying cacophony of confusion and pain.

Why is this track on here? This is awful.

I doubt that anyone is saying they shouldn't try something new but if it's repetitive, shouty crap, we're allowed to not like it.
Just about listenable for a non-Gorillaz fan.. and then that section for kids to jump about to kicks in at the end!
I am a little surprised by the criticism in the comments.  But that is music for you...it's very personal.  I appreciate the Gorillaz general style and willingness to explore new sounds.
Vapid unenjoyable noise.
A few months back, in the middle of a glorious Wellington summer, a good friend of mine asked me to work the PA and Tunes, for a wobble board competition he was running at the local school fair. I played a lot of Gorillaz, and the kids went mad for this tune. It was absolutely effing Brillant!. Apparently the whole village could hear us.   Now  all the parents think I'm a professional DJ and keep asking me to "DJ" for them, which is a bit embarrassing for all concerned.

Some of us don't listen through the app, and can't skip it.  We aren't haters, we just don't like it.  Deal with it.
I keep bumping this each time it comes on. Gorillaz for evah! 9
I enjoy the front end of the song, and so glad for PSD button when it gets to the ridiculous Ape part.

Always love to hear something from Gorillaz. Love that last line. Chilling.
As a Blur and Gorillaz fan, I can say it’s different, but still find myself liking it. The ape ape ape ape part at the end gets a bit much. Good before that. This song has a chorus that reminds me of OK Go. I like cracker island (the song) better.

That’s the Fungus Effect(sm)... it grows on you.
Has a real AI feel to it. Not happy with it but it is still art.
Love Gorillaz but this has to be their worst release yet

7 --> 8

Every time I hear this song, I like it more, which after over a dozen hearings, is unusual.  At first, I wasn't sure what to make of it, but it's really a brilliant song.

Try that with any Arctic Monkeys song. It won't work there. Just sayin'
The beginning of this song isn't too bad, but the ending is so horrible I skip the song as soon as I realize what's playing.
7 --> 8

Every time I hear this song, I like it more, which after over a dozen hearings, is unusual.  At first, I wasn't sure what to make of it, but it's really a brilliant song.

Check out this "live" performance of the song the band did in Times Square and I think you'll see what I mean.
I love the genius listeners who say Damon sounds like some unknown… Damon sounds like he has since the first Blur album.
There are way better songs on the Cracker Island album.
William with the call to say “haters - suck it” Damon Albarn and Co are fucking genius. This production is brilliant. You hater lot are so fucking tired. Get a hobby.
I hate this song. The thudding and simplistic repetition are really annoying. Sorry, it just ain’t for me — I do like much of the Goriillaz other stuff, just not this one.
I listen to RP at work everyday, so I've heard this a bazillion times and, each time, it gets worse.
The singer on this one sounds a lot like Menomena's.  Come to think of it, RP could use some Menomena.

Not far enough...
As a Gorillaz fan, this is a great song until it sucks ape ape ape ape ape ape ape ape.
Reminds me of drawing out a Family Guy vomit scene for an extra 47 seconds to make it a perfect 22 minute episode.

Would be super fun if there was a "see ratings over time" feature (for all songs).
I doubt that this song rating improves with age.
How many times will I have to play something different (?).
Meh.
This skinny little ape  just gave me a second wind for the paper I'm writing... Thanks Bill!
I enjoy this!

I've noticed the heavy airplay with 5's on a few tracks, like some of the Rosalia music last summer... I sometimes wonder if Bill is gambling that we will like them more on replays.

That's a pretty pretentious comment.  Maybe you gave it an 8 for the sole reason that it's different, without objectively evaluating the merits of the song on their own?  Maybe we totally love change, but we just happen to think that this is a bad song?

A really, really, REALLY bad song...
I generally like Gorillaz, but this is thumbs sideways for me.  Excited for a new album tho!
ilikeitalot!
Song is good until the ridiculous Ape chorus (over and over) at the end…that kills it for me.
Decent enough track, not outstanding as it has more of a pop sound, but does bring back memories of some of their older work.  Will have to call this a 6.

I would really like to see RP bring back some of their 2000s work, as there were some rock solid classics in there.  Please no more Feel Good Inc, though, heard that one way too many times.

People voting this 1 need to listen to the song a little bit longer.  The crazy uptempo section makes up for the first half, which drags its knuckles like a skinny little ape.

Funny - I think the first part is decent. The uptempp part is just too over processed or something for my taste.
love the play from Gorillaz to Apes
Still a 10.
Haters being time wasting brain dead zombies…. ooooo hate this new thing. On the other hand - I love Damien and all his creations. The guy is just plain genius. this bass is fat!
LOVE IT. MORE MORE MORE!!!
I'm back and forth on this track. It starts off really great, but by the end it is too much for me, sometimes. It is a good track, but not for me all the time. I need to be in the right mood for it, I guess.
What the hell? Has Gorillaz been drinking their own Kool-Aid? This song is pure garbage

Actually I personally didn't rate this song as a Gorillaz song. I don't care who performs it - merely don't like, that's all. I agree to
"People are Stupid, and They Fear and Hate Change"
but it doesnt' fit in this context.
Recently listed to this album a couple of times. It was very hit & miss for me. There are a few quite good tunes and more that were an easy "pass." This one is borderline for me - a "5" (the end ruins it for me)
Is Del on this record?  Hopefully.
Really?  You guys don't like this?....man, I do....

Yes, release date is still a month into the future ...

Eclectic, so appropriate for RP.  (Ape)  ... and I like it.  Ignore the naysayers, y'all!
As you requested, Bill, here's me hopping on the website and putting in my $.02 about this song:  how are people not liking this? It's brill. Classic Blur/Gorillaz/Albarn music. I'm ready to hear more songs off this album. Thanks for playing it!
As a skinny little yoof, I stupidly thought that Noel Gallagher was a greater talent than Damon Albarn (in the UK, we debated between Oasis and Blur).

How very wrong I was.

Not to undermine  Mr Gallagher (some crackin' tunes in the 90s), but Albarn really has just gone on and on with one re-invention after another. What a career he has ultimately delivered (I'd also recommend his collaboration with the fantastic Orchestra of Syrian Musicians).
Sounds like a bad Coldplay song.
Started so well and full of promise, only to then transition to a painful repetitive cacophony which ruins the whole affair.
I like it - the rythm works and it's a nice getaway... don't see why other's seem to be crticial of it.
I like the beginning then it loses me at the ape ape ape ape ....
On first listen only decent for me, perhaps a few more times  will be the elixir?
Love me some Gorillaz.... Love me some Damon even more.

First time hearing this; I like it.  Sounds a bit like a Menomena song.  I'll start at 7 and update on more listens.

"I'm an apeman, I'm an ape, apeman, oh I'm an apeman"
Every time I hear this I like it more.
I wouldn't have known it was Gorillaz if  it wasn't labelled as such - I will need to hear the rest of the album. before I judge.
Coming back to say the next track - Hey Pretty by Poe sounds more like the Gorillaz I know than this track does, which is really weird - and VERY clever BillG!

Trust RP to get the early release copy for all of us to enjoy.
I hear Genesis.  Follow You Follow Me.....

This album is going to be another great one isn't it? Gorillaz can barely do anything wrong!
Well, they had catchier tunes...
