Radio Paradise

Once again into the rabbit hole of trying to find photos of a motel I used to stay at ânot the Sky Ranchâ in this area. It was built in a semi-circle, cafe on the highway (99), and in the 80s as a last gasp they had some goats taking care of weeds on the sprawling property that they advertised as a "petting zoo." The biscuits and gravy were good and they didn't mind that we had to replace a water pump in a 62 F-100 in the back.

I rode back and forth between Vegas and LA on I-15, through Barstow and all back in the '80s but I've never been to the Bakersfield/Route 90 area of California. What's out in that area - dairies or cattle ranches or things like that? I guess there must've been some little airport around there back then for a motel to be named "Sky Ranch".

Judging by the wording on that matchbook it must have been a while ago and in the hinterlands: "motor hotel", "Route 99" with no address. I imagine that place must be long-gone - I don't think this is it. Kurt's right, there's probably no reason to visit.
