little late to mark 25 years since he left this plane.

Patti Smith posted an at-home performance of her song “Grateful” that was dedicated to Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia. Smith wrote the song 25 years ago today, the day Garcia died at the age of 53.

Have you seen any video Dead and Co?  I'm still sort of stunned by it all...given the lengths we all went to in order for me to attend the "END"....  but ... wow.  I have been quite impressed.

I was getting an oil change during my lunch break, and the guys were joking about Jerry Garcia dying. The dead had just played Chicago a bit before then, so I didn't really think anything of it. I had stickers all over my car-- I just let it slide. But then I got in my car and turned on WXRT radio, and they were playing "uncle johns band," I just burst into tears.

Of the 30+ odd shows I attended, I only attempted psychedelics 2x...and neither time was enjoyable (at those 2 shows, otherwise I've enjoyed them {#Smile}).  For the most part, I found the "excessive" or overuse of drugs at shows, annoying.

I remember when I heard the news, like a "Where were you when Kennedy was shot?" moment.  I was in Boulder, CO, just got off from working a Copirg fund raising gig.  The Pearl St. area was inundated...drum circles, candle vigils everywhere.  I had saw them a few backs in Vegas, and recall how awful that show was, compared to a wonderful Vegas show the prior year.  That what it was like seeing the dead from the late 80s-90s...If Jerry was clean, it was great show, otherwise... Regardless of his drug use (and poor diet), Jerry Garcia was one hell of an artist, and human being.  A true "hippie" who lived life according to his own terms.
