Not all teams do a Pride Night, but duh, San Francisco. If a player is going to have an issue with it, they should decline the contract. It should be written into the contract that keeping your mouth shut is a good policy OR learn from former homophobe Jeremy Affeldt: He is still a churchy guy, but listens to Jesus, not his hometown thumper. That's all anyone needs to do on that front.
New manager Tony Vitello had everyone willing to give him a chance because (see: Ted Lasso) his style is different and ââwell it was different in college. Now he's in the bigs and lets the players get away with all sorts of shit, including being fully aware, weeks before Pride Night, that some players were going to protest. Any manager I've ever heard of would have shut that shit down back in April, not let it get to June with them still tee-heeing about it. It's called a "uniform" boys, wear the uniform or sit this one out.
Then Buster says nothing for a week, then finally calls a presser and says "I'm not going to talk about that" and that's the end of the presser. Could have become a fucking legend if he'd fired those three players, benched the one who only protested by wearing the standard non-pride hat, and given Vitello an ultimatum: Manage the team off the field and let Ron Washington manage the game because you are sucking. But no, everyone's shrugging off a 50-win season as acceptable.
Couple that with Joshua Kushner (yes, his brother) is now a minority owner (albeit one of a few dozen minority owners)(and Joshua has a much better track record of not being a shitbag), it's looking more and more likely that I'll be primarily a Mariners fan soon. I could have easily switched to being primarily an Oakland A's fan but they already shit on us Bay Area fans.
I still watch a lot of games because it's breathtaking how many ways they can find to blow a lead or simply fail to score at all.

The Anti-Defamation League and the advocacy group GLAAD issued a report in June indicating an increase in harassment and violence against gay and transgender people, including online bullying, gatherings of armed protesters outside drag shows and bomb threats against hospitals that provide gender transition care. In the first three weeks of June there were 101 such incidents, more than twice the number during the same time period the year before. (...)
At the Brownsville building where Mr. Sibley lived alone in a studio, his neighbor, Beckenbaur Hamilton, 51, said he had warned the younger man against being so open about his sexuality. Mr. Hamilton, who is also gay, recalled attacks he had suffered in his 20s when going out to clubs, and said that he has recently been overhearing comments on the street about âall these rightsâ gay people have.
The Slovenian parliament on Tuesday passed an amendment allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt after a constitutional court ruling made it the first country in Eastern Europe to do so.
The family law amendment was passed by 48 MPs, with 29 against and one abstaining.
Slovenia, which emerged from the break-up of Yugoslavia, is the first former communist country to endorse this reform in Europe, as most of its neighbours do not allow civil unions or same-sex marriages.
The government of Estonia came the closest in 2016 by agreeing to recognize same-sex unions created in other countries. Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Montenegro have laws establishing same-sex civil partnerships - and in Hungary, even talking about homosexuality in front of children has been punishable by a fine since the summer of 2021.
In July, Slovenia's highest court ruled that the law defining marriage as only between a man and a woman discriminated against gay and lesbian couples.
It suspended the contested articles with immediate effect and ordered parliament to amend the text within six months.
"With these changes, we are recognising the rights of same-sex couples that they should have had for a long time," State Secretary Simon Maljevac told MPs when presenting the amendment.
The main opposition party, the Slovenian Democratic Party, criticised the court's decision and organised several rallies against the new law.
"The best father will never replace a mother and vice versa," said SDS parliamentary group chairman Alenka Jeraj at the opening of the debate.
Intersex and non-binary gender/gender fluid are different things. Someone can be both, but one is physical/genetic and one is identity eta: and neither necessarily has to do with being gay
