Wow! It's been a while since I first heard that tune. Had to fight for position with Blues, Birds, Troggs, Stones and Beatles, And a few others.

Sounds like a cross between Ray Charles and the Animals.  Cool.

Smash Mouth and Sir Douglas....ain't Ktell great
Arguably the greatest and most influential Tex-Mex group ever, the Sir Douglas Quintet (SDQ) headed by virtuoso Doug Sahm, helped establish Texas' reputation as the quintessential roots music melting pot. (SDQ) mixed country, blues, jazz, R&B, Mexican conjunto/norteño music, Cajun swamp rock and more.
Ahhh, good to hear a little Doug Sahm here. R.I.P., baby - we still love you.
this is one of those mis understood lyric songs
Saw them at the Fairfax Pavilion in Marin Co. I think between my junior and senior years in HS. Edwardian coats and frilly shirts, looking an awful lot like the early Kinks and pretty awful. Man, could they ever play.

Wow. It's sixth grade all over again!
Rating average is a perfect 10.
One thing that Tejanos and rednecks, hippies and punks all agreed on was that Doug Sahm and the Sir Douglas Quintet rocked! This is their best known and most beloved hit, preferable even to the well-intentioned cover by Los Lobos. More Texas rock 'n' roll!
