The original is a decent tune, but I believe this version has achieved something quite different - and IMHO, not in a good way... In fact, the repeating vocal stanza at the end really makes me want to strangle the singer... Play the original, and dump this awful tripe in the mixing room waste basket where it belongs...

Joe Newman definitely has a love it or hate it vocal style, but I think it meshes really well with alt-J's mystique.

It's because there's a good song hidden under layers of imaginative and clever production. While I do enjoy the production, it really stands out and dominates the song, obscuring the actual songwriting. Taylor Rae's version strips away all the bells and whistles and weirdness, allowing us to enjoy the song itself.
I had never heard the original of this before. I prefer the Taylor Rae version. Quite obsessed with that one. I think its one of those rare songs where the cover is superior but doubtless some will disagree.

Yes, I think I'm with you. There's a genre of bands that Alt-J seem to belong to which is folks who are full of creativity and great ideas, but lack a strong vocalist. Sometimes they deal with this by using various effects to almost disguise this fact, but the truth is laid bare here and I find the timbre of the vocal line too distracting to enjoy the rest of the song.
Yikes, I love Alt-J, but I don't love this song.

heehee - i always have to look up abbreviations. "urban slang" comes up and i'm thinking WTF---?! (this one I've known for years)
but i've been obsolete and ignorant of 'current anything' for so long I'm finding it terribly amusing - oh, and I agree with tthe comment about the outro...IMHO

!The music got me over to the comments, but the lyrics are not compelling. The long outro adds nothing. YMMV.

The lyrics remind me of the childrens book "Where The Wild Things Are".

Given that this track is off their debut album...your use of this idiom makes zero sense. And I highly doubt that you meant precious either...
