Our current roof is brown, which compliments the paint scheme of our home. Given the increasingly hot summers and mild winters we're experiencing, I think going light on the roof is a net gain. Next month we're having our flexable HVAC ducting replaced with insulated hardpipe and insulating our floor (house is built on a crawlspace). Everything adds up.
A thing I ran across while googling - florida.... rapper.... This will hurt his air conditioning bill.
It's definitely a factor. Oddly it can hurt too - cooler in winter. So for an energy balance, you need to know the cost of cooling and heating, and your latitude will have an impact as well (shorter days in the winter). At the southern compound light roofs make a lot of sense, but the best membrane sealant available is grey (light grey), so as with all things - compromise.
A whole house in black is a style choice that I don't get.
Me neither.

Here in Deplahoma, black roofs on houses are extremely popular. Hell, even entire houses are increasingly painted black. I wonder how much energy could be saved if lighter colors - maybe even white - were used as frequently. I know the next roof we put on this house will be white - and steel.

saw that too (on another website)
seems to be a lot of activity around wind turbines
recently saw this "commercial" for an interesting design
obviously these people are trying to woo investors
the furling is pretty neat ( it is a new take/improvement on an old design)
$2500? Nice. Let's hope these innovative ideas get a chance to scale up.

The bladeless system is designed to supply buildings with electricity harvested from wind (Aeromine Technologies)
A new rooftop wind harvesting device is capable of generating 50 per cent more electricity than solar panels for the same cost, according to its inventors.
A much smaller footprint means a single unit can also provide the same amount of power as up to 16 solar panels.
The motionless design, created by Texas-based startup Aeromine Technologies, replaces the blades found in traditional wind turbines with an aerodynamic system that harvests energy from the airflow above a building.
This makes them virtually noiseless and safe for birds and other wildlife.

Flawless weather and decreased human activity have emboldened the plants as they prepare their final assault to completely overtake us. Our time is short, but the French drain turned out nice:

The modular electric drive matrix (MEB) is VW’s next-generation electric platform on which the production versions of its “I.D.” concept electric vehicles are based on.
Christian Senger, Head of the E-mobility Product Line, says that the MEB, as a dedicated electric platform, will make it possible to install larger batteries:
“The ID. will be a milestone in technological development. It will be the first fully connected electric car with full everyday utility that millions of people will be able to afford. The car holds the road really well thanks to the flat battery in the floorpan and the space inside is much more generous – we are making substantial headway with the sense of spaciousness.”
VW is going with the skateboard-like design with the battery pack sitting on the floor between the two axles.
As a result, the two nations enjoy vastly cheaper and cleaner power than solar and wind-heavy Germany and Denmark.
And yet many of the same experts proclaim publicly, “We need a clean energy mix!” — one that includessolar and wind.
Why?
The reason has nothing to do with technology, engineering, or economics and everything to do with politics.
As a result, we are at grave risk of locking in fossil fuels and making the decarbonization of energy harder, slower, and more expensive than it needs to be.
